SUNDAY.
Morning Awakening and Sanctification
A prayer for the resurrection of the soul to grace and the sanctification of the Sunday rest.
O Lord, by your mercy I have risen from the grave where I might have slept in death, but you preserved me. I beg you, make this a resurrection to grace in this life, and to glory in the life to come, through Jesus Christ, who earned both for us. Amen. Today, through the Resurrection of your Son, our blessed Savior, has been made holy for us. Grant me the grace to keep it holy for you, through Jesus Christ. Amen. Send out your Light and your Truth to lead me, and bring me to your holy hill and to your dwelling; so that I may go to your altar, O my God, the God of my joy and gladness, and give thanks to you. Amen.
Petitions for Grace and Guidance
A series of prayers seeking divine governance, the light of truth, and the armor of faith.
Almighty and everlasting God, who governs all things in heaven and on earth, mercifully hear my prayers for myself and all your people, and grant us your peace throughout all the days of our life, for the sake of Jesus Christ. Amen. Almighty God, I humbly ask you to give me the grace to cast away the works of darkness and to put on the armor of light during this time of mortal life, in which your Son Christ Jesus came to visit us in great humility. That on the last day, when he comes again in his glorious majesty to judge both the living and the dead, I, along with all your faithful servants, may rise to eternal life through him who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, now and forever. Amen. Blessed God, who has caused all holy Scriptures to be written for our learning, grant that I and all Christians may hear, read, mark, learn, and inwardly digest them in such a way that, through the patience and comfort they provide, we may embrace and hold fast to the blessed hope of everlasting life, which you have given us in our Savior Jesus Christ. Amen. Lord, I humbly ask you to raise up your power and come among us, and with great might help us: that while we are sorely let and hindered by our sins, your bountiful grace and mercy, through the satisfaction of your Son our Lord, may speedily deliver us; to whom, with you and the Holy Spirit, be all honor and glory, world without end. Amen. Lord, let your angels surround me and deliver me, so that I may taste and see how gracious you are, my Lord, and how blessed is the person who trusts in you; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. I will wait for your loving-kindness, O God, in the midst of your Temple, and there I will praise you. Amen. Lord, let me see you in your Sanctuary, and there behold your Power and Glory. For your loving-kindness is better than life, therefore my lips will praise you. I will praise you like this all my life, and lift up my hands in your Name. Oh! Satisfy me with the riches of mercy that are in Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
Longing for the Sanctuary
Expressions of deep longing for God's dwelling and prayers for strength amidst life's dangers.
How lovely are your dwellings, Lord of Hosts! My soul longs and yearns to enter your courts, O Lord; my heart and my flesh rejoice in you, O merciful God. Amen. Lord, I humbly ask you to hear and accept my prayers for myself and for your people who call upon you; and grant that we may perfectly know what we ought to do, and also have the grace and power to faithfully fulfill the same, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. Almighty and everlasting God, mercifully look upon all my infirmities; and in all dangers and adversities, stretch out your right hand to help and defend me, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. God, you who know that we are surrounded by so many and great dangers, and that because of our frailty we cannot always stand firm; I humbly ask you to grant me health of body and soul, so that I may endure and overcome all the things I suffer for my sins, with your help, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. O Lord, the sun is high today, but lift up the light of your face upon me, and I will be whole. Clear away all darkness and spiritual shadows from me, and diminish them within me, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. Who can say how often he offends? O Lord, cleanse me from my hidden sins; keep me also from willful sins, lest they gain dominion over me. And keep me innocent from great offenses; I humbly beseech you. Amen. Blessed are those who live in your house; they will always be praising you. Blessed is the person whose strength is in you, in whose heart are your ways. Lord, bless the heart of your servant for the sake of Jesus Christ. Amen.
The Trinity and the Call to Holiness
Adoration of the Holy Trinity and prayers for purity of life and the imitation of Christ.
O Holy, adorable, and patient Trinity! For you are patient, enduring those who tear you apart for so long. O Trinity, of whom I am worthy to be a servant and not a false herald, I have long been deemed worthy: O Trinity, to be recognized by all either through illumination or through punishment! I pray that you might also accept those who now afflict you with insults, so that no one, not even the least among them, may perish; and this, even if it requires some loss of grace on my part. I don't dare to say anything more than the Apostle. But grant this through and because of the merits of Jesus Christ our Redeemer. Amen. Almighty God, who through your only begotten Son Jesus Christ has overcome death and opened to us the gate of everlasting life, I humbly beseech you that, as by your special grace you prevent me, you put good desires into my mind; so by your continual help, I may bring those desires to good effect, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. Almighty God, who gave your only Son to die for our sins and to rise again for our justification, grant me the grace to put away the leaven of malice and all wickedness, so that I may always serve you in purity of living and in truth, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. Almighty God, who has given your only Son to be both a sacrifice for sin and an example of a godly life, grant me the grace to always receive that inestimable benefit with deep gratitude, and to daily strive to follow the blessed steps of his most holy life, for the sake of the same your Son, Jesus Christ. Amen. Lord, grant me the grace to remain still with you and to patiently abide in your presence. That I may not grieve myself over the man whose way is successful, nor against him who follows evil counsel. Let me turn away from anger and let go of displeasure, so that I don't fret and be moved to do evil. Amen. May the Lord grant that a consuming fire be kindled within me and for me, and may my heart burn with this fire into eternal light, so that my soul does not burn in eternal punishment; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
Trust in Mercy and Divine Help
Prayers for steadfastness, mercy, and the replenishment of the heart with goodness.
O Lord, make me like a green olive tree in your house, for I trust in your tender mercy forever. I will always praise you for what you have done, and I will hope in your name forever. Amen. O Lord, help me remember how much more I need to call upon you than others do. My burdens are heavy and my strength is small; O give me the grace to come often before you and ask for the help you are more ready to give than I am to ask, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. Have mercy on me, O Lord: look at the troubles I suffer from those who hate me, You who lifted me up from the gates of death. Amen. O Lord, increase in me faith and devotion; replenish my heart with all goodness, and by your great mercy keep me in the same. Give me godly zeal in prayer, true humility in prosperity, perfect patience in adversity, and constant joy in the Holy Spirit; all for the sake of Jesus Christ, my only Lord and Savior. Amen. O God, you have taught the hearts of your faithful people by sending them the light of your holy Spirit; grant me by that same Spirit to have right judgment in all things, and always to rejoice in his holy comfort, through the merits of Christ Jesus our Savior, who lives and reigns with you, in the unity of the same Spirit, one God, world without end. Amen. Almighty and everlasting God, who has given your servants grace through the confession of true faith to acknowledge the glory of the Eternal Trinity, and in the power of your divine majesty to worship the unity; I humbly ask you to bless me as well, that I may live in the steadfastness of this faith, and through it be evermore defended from all spiritual and bodily dangers, for your mercies' sake, who lives and reigns as one God, world without end. Amen. O my God, please incline your ear and listen; open your eyes and see. O Lord, forgive me; O Lord, consider this and act, for your own sake, O my God, and for the sake of my Savior, Jesus Christ. Amen.
Final Petitions for Comfort and Guidance
A concluding set of prayers for comfort, the gift of love, and the guidance of the Holy Spirit.
Lord, let me not be afraid, even if someone becomes rich or if the glory of their house increases. For they will carry nothing away with them when they die, nor will their pomp follow them. But always make me afraid to offend you. Amen. My eyes ache for your word, asking, When will you comfort me? Lord, comfort me, for I have become like a bottle in the smoke; yet let me not, I beseech you, forget your Law, even for Jesus Christ's sake. Amen. O Lord God, you see that I don't put my trust in anything I do; mercifully grant that I may be defended against all adversity through Jesus Christ my Lord and only Savior. Amen. O Lord, you have taught us that all our actions without love are worthless; send your Holy Spirit and pour into my heart that most excellent gift of love, the very bond of peace and all virtues, without which anyone who lives is counted as dead before you. Grant this for the sake of your only Son, Jesus Christ. Amen. Lord, fill me with grace so that I can fulfill all the service I owe you through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. O Lord God, please spare me: who will raise up Jacob? For he is small. Spare him therefore, O Lord; spare your people, spare me. Say to my soul, 'You have repented of the evil you intended, and it will not be.' Amen. Lord, when I am asleep, let me not be afraid; let my sleep be sweet, so that I may be able to serve you. Amen. I ask you, most merciful Father, to grant that I, who am justly punished for my wrongdoings, may be comforted by your grace and relieved through Jesus Christ, our only Lord and Savior. Amen. Look upon me and hear me, O Lord my God: enlighten my eyes, so that I don't sleep in death. Amen. O Lord, you have tested and examined my heart; in the night you have tried me. O blessed Father, cleanse me so that you may find no wickedness in me; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. O Lord, hear me, so that I may praise you seven times a day; and let me know that great peace which those have who love your Law. Amen. O Lord, from whom all good things come, grant me, your humble servant, that by your holy inspiration I may think of those things that are good, and by your merciful guidance may also perform them, through our Lord Jesus Christ. Amen.
