Songs of Deliverance

A series of prayers and psalmic praises celebrating God's rescue from enemies and distress.

I will magnify you, O Lord, for you have lifted me up and have not let my enemies triumph over me. O Lord, my God, I cried out to you, and you healed me; you kept my life safe from those who go down into the pit. Sing praises to the Lord, O my soul, and give thanks to him for a remembrance of his holiness. Amen. O my soul, be joyful in the Lord and rejoice in his salvation. All my bones will say, 'Lord, who is like you? You rescue the poor from those who are too strong for them; you save the needy and those in misery from their oppressors.' Amen. I will give thanks to you, O Lord, according to your righteousness, and I will praise your Name, O Lord most high. O Lord, you are high and awesome, a great King over all the earth; you have subdued the people under us and the nations under our feet. Therefore, I will sing praises to you, O God, who is greatly to be exalted. Amen. Your vows are upon me, O my God; I will give you praise, for you have delivered my soul from death and my feet from falling, so that I may walk before you, O my God, in the light of the living, and bless you. Amen.

A Trinity of Thanksgiving

A specific act of thanksgiving directed toward the Triune God for the gift of revelation and teaching.

Thank you, God; thank you, true and one Trinity, one and threefold Truth, three and one Unity. Thank you, God the Father, for revealing your Son to me and giving me a Teacher. O, may you always give in your ancient mercies. Amen.

Vows of Constant Praise

The petitioner commits to singing God's praises among the nations and fulfilling vows in the congregation.

My heart is ready, O Lord; my heart is ready. I will sing and give you praise; yes, I will praise you among the people, and I will sing to you among the nations. O let your mercy, which is great to the heavens, and your truth, which reaches to the clouds, embrace me and keep me close to you, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. I will give thanks to you, O Lord, with my whole heart; I will speak of all your marvelous works. I will be glad and rejoice in you; yes, my songs will be about your Name, O most high. For you have upheld my right and my cause; you sit on the throne judging righteously. Lord, continue to be my defense against the oppressor and my refuge in times of trouble, so that I may always rejoice in your salvation, Jesus Christ. Amen. My trust is in you, O God, and my heart finds joy in your salvation. I will sing to you, O Lord, because you have dealt so lovingly with me; yes, I will praise your Name, O Lord most high. Amen. O praise the Lord with me, all you who fear him; magnify him, all you of the seed of Jacob. I will praise you in the great congregation, and I will fulfill my vows in the sight of those who fear you. Amen.

From Heaviness to Gladness

A reflection on the transition from the depths of despair to the joy of God's restorative mercy.

What good is there in my blood, when I go down to the pit? Will the dust thank you, or will it declare your truth? Hear, O Lord, and have mercy on me; Lord, be my helper. You have turned my sorrow into joy; you have taken off my sackcloth and clothed me with gladness; therefore, I will sing your praise without ceasing. O my God, I will give you thanks forever. Amen. I will always give thanks to you, O Lord; your praise will always be on my lips. My soul will boast in you, O my God; the humble will hear it and be glad. For I sought you, O Lord, and you heard me; you delivered me from all my fears, for the sake of Jesus Christ. Amen. Let my mouth be filled with praise, and may I glorify you every day. Amen. O Lord, who is like you? For you have shown me great troubles and adversities, but I hope you will return and revive me; you will return and take me out of this depth. Amen. I will thank you, O Lord my God, with all my heart, and I will praise your Name forever; for great is your mercy toward me, and you have delivered my soul from the depths of Hell. O deliver it still for Jesus Christ's sake. Amen.

Gratitude for Grace and Providence

A comprehensive prayer of thanks for both spiritual truth and temporal blessings.

O Lord, I offer you humble and heartfelt thanks for the knowledge of your truth you've given me; for instilling in me a love for it and for your Church; for calming my soul amid the distractions of your churches; and for the rest and peace you've granted me in you, where true content is found nowhere else. Lord, I also thank you humbly for the temporal blessings you've poured upon me; for the favor of my liege lord and sovereign; for the position to which you've raised me; and for the means you've provided to do good. Lord, I can't name all your blessings; how can I thank you for them? Lord, I will thank you for them by honoring you through them. O grant me a heart that desires all this, and the grace to carry it out, so that my sins may be forgiven and I may belong to you, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Final Adoration

A concluding act of worship focused on the greatness of God's Word and Name.

O praise the Lord, for he is gracious; O sing to his Name, for it is lovely. I will give thanks to you, O Lord, with my whole heart; I will worship toward your holy Temple and praise your Name, because of your loving kindness and truth, for you have magnified your Name and your Word above all things. Lord, give me grace to obey your Word and to honor your Name forever, in Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
