The Transforming Power of the Rosary

112. A parish priest in Denmark often used to share, for the greater glory of God and with great joy of soul, that he had seen the same fruit of devotion to the Rosary in his parish as that bishop had seen in his diocese. "I had," he used to say, "preached on every subject that was most urgent and most fruitful, without any gain; I saw no amendment in my parish. At last I resolved to preach the holy Rosary; I explained its excellence and how to practice it, and I declare that after I had made my people taste this devotion, I saw a clear change within six months." It is so true that this divine prayer has a completely divine anointing to touch hearts and inspire in them a horror of sin and a love of virtue" (Rosier mystique, 7th decade, ch.1 6). The Blessed Virgin said one day to blessed Alain: "Just as God chose the Angelic Salutation for the Incarnation of his Word and the Redemption of mankind, so those who want to reform the morals of people and regenerate them in Jesus Christ must honor me and greet me with that same salutation."2 "I am," she adds, "the way by which God came to men, and after Jesus Christ they must obtain grace and the virtues through me."
Personal Witness to Conversion
The author shares his personal experience of how the daily Rosary converts hardened hearts and sustains the faithful in a life of virtue.
113. As for me, the one writing this, I have learned from my own experience the power of this prayer to convert the hardest hearts. I have found people on whom all the most terrible truths preached in a mission had made no impression at all, and who, because they took up—on my advice—the practice of saying the Rosary every day, were converted and gave themselves entirely to God. I have seen a vast difference in the morals of people in the parishes where I have given missions: some who gave up the practice of the beads and the Rosary fell back into their sins, while others who kept it up remained in the grace of God and grew in virtue day by day.3

112. «Un recteur d'une paroisse de Danemark racontait souvent, à la plus grande gloire de Dieu et avec une grande joie de son âme, qu'il avait vu un pareil fruit de la dévotion du Rosaire dans sa paroisse, que cet évêque dans son diocèse. "J'avais, disait-il, prêché toutes les matières les plus pressantes et les plus fructueuses, sans aucun profit; je ne voyais aucun amendement dans ma paroisse; enfin je fis résolution de prêcher le saint Rosaire, j'en expliquai l'excellence et sa pratique, et je proteste qu'après avoir fait goûter cette dévotion à mon peuple, je vis un changement évident dans six mois. Tant il est véritable que cette divine prière a une onction toute divine pour toucher les cœurs et leur inspirer l'horreur du péché et l'amour de la vertu"» (Rosier mystique, 7ème dizaine, ch. 6). La Sainte Vierge dit un jour au bienheureux Alain: Comme Dieu a choisi le salut angélique pour l'Incarnation de son Verbe et la Rédemption des hommes, ainsi, ceux qui désirent réformer les mœurs des peuples et les régénérer en Jésus-Christ me doivent honorer et saluer par le même salut. Je suis, ajoute-t-elle, la voie par laquelle Dieu est venu aux hommes et il faut qu'après Jésus-Christ ils obtiennent la grâce et les vertus par mon moyen.
113. Pour moi, qui écris, j'ai appris, par ma propre expérience, la force de cette prière pour convertir les cœurs les plus endurcis. J'en ai trouvé sur lesquels toutes les plus terribles vérités prêchées dans une mission n'avaient fait aucune impression et qui, pour avoir, par mon conseil, pris la pratique de réciter tous les jours le Rosaire, se sont convertis et donnés tout à Dieu. J'ai vu une infinie différence entre les mœurs des peuples des paroisses où j'avais fait des missions, parce que les uns, ayant quitté la pratique du chapelet et du Rosaire, étaient retombés dans leurs péchés; et les autres, pour l'avoir conservée, s'étaient conservés dans la grâce de Dieu et augmentaient tous les jours dans la vertu.
