XI. O tu illustrata (De sancta Maria)
Illumined by the Spirit, Restoring What Eve Lost
Mary, flooded with divine brightness and the Word, receives the Spirit who undoes Eve's fall by conceiving the Son of God in her womb, joining flesh to divinity in restoration.
Antiphon: O you who were illumined by divine brightness, bright branch Mary, flooded with the word of God, from whose womb blossomed forth at the entrance of the Spirit of God, who breathed on you and in you drew out what Eve took away in the cutting off of purity, through the contracted contagion from the devil's suggestion. You wondrously hid within yourself the immaculate flesh through God's own design, when the Son of God blossomed in your womb — holy divinity bringing him up against the claims of the flesh, which Eve had built up — joined to wholeness in the divine inward parts.✦
