Discerning False Visions
The faithful are encouraged to reject all extraordinary visions during the hour of death, relying instead on humility and the mercy of Christ.
If our relentless enemy, who never tires of tormenting us, attacks you with false apparitions and disguises himself as an angel of light, remain firm and unshaken in the knowledge that you are nothing, and tell him boldly: “Go back, wretch, into your darkness, because I don’t deserve visions, nor do I need anything but the mercy of my Jesus and the prayers of the Virgin Mary, Saint Joseph, and the other saints.” Even if many apparently clear signs made you think these things had come from heaven, reject them all the same and distance yourself from them as much as you can. And don't be afraid that this resistance, grounded in your unworthiness, will displease the Lord. For if the matter is his, he will know how to make it perfectly clear, and you will lose nothing, since the one who gives grace to the humble (see 1 Pet. 5:5) does not withdraw it because of the acts of humility they perform.
Preparing for the Final Conflict
We must proactively mortify our dominant passions now to ensure victory during the final struggle of death.
These are the most common weapons the enemy uses against us at that final passage. He also tempts each person according to the particular inclinations he knows they are most vulnerable to. So, before the hour of the great conflict draws near, we must arm ourselves well and fight vigorously against our most violent passions—the ones that rule us most completely—to make victory easier when the time comes that leaves us no further opportunity to do so: “Fight them until you have destroyed them” (see 1 Samuel 15:18).

Se l'ostinato nostro nemico, che non si stanca mai di tormentarci, ti assalisse con false apparizioni e si trasformasse in angelo di luce, sta' ferma e salda nella cognizione del tuo niente e digli arditamente: “Ritorna, infelice, nelle tue tenebre, perché io non merito visioni né ho bisogno d'altro che della misericordia del mio Gesù e delle preghiere di Maria Vergine, di san Giuseppe e degli altri santi”.
Se pure ti paresse per molti segni quasi evidenti che fossero cose venute dal cielo, rifiutale ugualmente e allontanale da te quanto puoi; e non temere che questa resistenza, fondata nella tua indegnità, dispiaccia al Signore: infatti se la faccenda sarà sua, egli saprà ben chiarirla e tu niente perderai; poiché chi dà la grazia agli umili (cfr. l Pt 5,5) non la toglie a motivo degli atti di umiltà che si compiono.
Queste sono le armi più comuni, che il nemico suole adoperare contro di noi in quell'estremo passo. Egli poi va tentando ciascuno secondo le particolari inclinazioni, alle quali lo conosce più soggetto. Però prima di avvicinarsi l'ora del gran conflitto, dobbiamo armarci bene e combattere strenuamente contro le nostre passioni più violente e che più ci signoreggiano, per facilitare la vittoria nel tempo che ci toglie ogni altro tempo di poterlo fare: “Combattili finché non li avrai distrutti” (cfr. 1Sam 15,18).
