The King's Humble Journey
The Lord warns a king against the vanity of worldly pomp when visiting the Pope, urging him instead to travel with humility and a modest, devout retinue.
The Lord spoke to the bride, saying: If a king sets out to visit the Supreme Pontiff and considers his sins to be great, he must be on his guard against flatterers who advise him to travel with pomp so that his name might be praised on earth, and against those who advise him to give away his gifts lavishly so that his fame might be spread abroad, and to gather a large retinue so that he might not be captured by his enemies. Instead, let him go wisely and humbly, keeping only the necessary household and not an excessive one, surrounding himself with devout and honest servants, and spending his resources not for his own display, but for the benefit and honor of God.
Prudence and Divine Wisdom
The king is encouraged to balance divine trust with human prudence, acknowledging that even holy leaders like Moses benefited from wise counsel.
Still, he should be prudent and guard against those who seek to harm him, because although I can do all things, sometimes it's necessary to act through human counsel and assistance. Even though I spoke with Moses, he still listened to and followed the advice of a pagan man, provided it was good.
