The Order of Peace and Zeal
Christ instructs that while faith should not be forced, the removal of obstacles to the gospel justifies the use of zeal and force after an initial offer of peace.
Christ spoke to his bride, saying: "It is said that no one should be forced against their will into the kingdom of heaven." I answer that when weeds hinder good flowers, isn't it better to cut the weeds down so the rising flowers aren't choked off? Therefore, those who go into the lands of the infidels should first offer them peace, faith, and freedom; and if the infidels don't accept their counsel and warnings, then zeal and force must be employed.
The Reward of Divine Love
God promises a hundredfold reward for those who act out of love, noting that even the infidel's fate is tempered by divine mercy.
For all who have died for the sake of love, I—God, who am love itself—will repay them a hundredfold; and even those infidels will face lesser punishments than if they had lived longer and died in peace, because if they had lived longer, they would have sinned more. Charity is such a great good that not even the smallest thought will go unrewarded. How much more so, then, a good deed!
Read the original Latin
Quanto magis opus bonum!
