The Deception of the Fox
Christ warns the king against the predatory nature of a deceptive outsider who seeks to destroy the simple.
Christ speaks to his bride, saying: The king is looking for the help and friendship of a fox. But what is the way of a fox, if not to pretend it's dead so it can snatch up simple birds? If it gets into a pen of geese, it isn't satisfied with eating just one; it has to kill them all. In the same way, if this person gains a foothold in the land, they won't rest until they have more, and then they'll sow discord, because the local people and the outsiders won't get along. Therefore, you should avoid his company like the hiss of a poisonous snake, because if he gains any ground, he'll bring the land to ruin and pluck the simple geese clean.
Prudence and Divine Warning
The king is advised to act with foresight to avoid the ruin brought by those who seek only to plunder.
The kingdom's advisors and the king should work to ensure that the money owed to him by way of a dowry is paid out, because, as the common proverb says, it's better to be cautious beforehand than wise after the danger has passed. The Son of God says: "Already, from the seed of the fox and the viper, they have raised their heads—a head that knows how to strip bare, not how to heal." This won't bring them any great joy, nor will it help them grow in justice, because that generation is displeasing to me, and a painful end will overshadow its happy beginnings.
