While Lady Birgitta was living in Rome, she was praying in a state of mental elevation one day when Christ appeared and spoke to her, saying: Prepare yourselves now to go on a pilgrimage to Jerusalem to visit my sepulcher and the other holy places there, and you'll leave Rome when I tell you to.
