The Vision of Divine Love
The visionary is caught up in spirit to see Christ, who declares his eternal love and the finality of his judgment for those who reject his passion.
It happened to a person who was keeping watch and devoted to prayer that, while standing suspended in an ecstasy of contemplation, she saw herself caught up in the spirit into a palace of incomprehensible size and unspeakable beauty. She also saw Jesus Christ sitting among his saints on a majestic imperial throne. He opened his blessed mouth and spoke these words, which are recorded below. I am truly the highest love itself. For everything I did from eternity, I did out of love; and in the same way, everything I do now and will do in the future proceeds entirely from my love. For the love that is in me now is just as incomprehensible and intense as it was at the time of my passion, when, through my death and out of excessive love, I freed from hell all the elect who were worthy of this redemption and liberation. If it were still possible for me to die as many times as there are souls in hell, and if I could endure that same death for each one of them again—just as I once endured it for all—my body would still be ready to undergo all of this with a willing heart and the most perfect love. But it's truly impossible now for my body to die again, or to suffer any pain or tribulation. It's just as impossible for any soul that is, or will be, condemned to hell after my death to ever be set free from it again. They won't experience the heavenly joy that my saints and chosen ones feel from the glorious vision of my body; instead, they will suffer hellish torments in eternal death, because they refused to benefit from my death and passion, and wouldn't follow my will while they lived in the world.
A Divine Complaint Against Cyprus
Christ issues a formal complaint against the kingdom of Cyprus, detailing his past blessings and their current state of rebellion and impending judgment.
Furthermore, because there is no judge for the offenses committed against me except for myself, and because my charity—which I have always shown to humanity—complains before my justice, it belongs to my justice to judge this matter according to my will. Now I am bringing my complaint against the people of the kingdom of Cyprus, as if they were one single person. I'm not complaining about my friends who live there, who love me with their whole heart and follow my will in all things; rather, I'm speaking in complaint to all those others as if they were one person—those who despise me, always resist my will, and are most bitterly opposed to me. And for that reason, I'm now beginning to speak to them all as if to one. People of Cyprus, you who oppose me, listen and pay close attention to what I'm saying to you. I have loved you just as a father loves his only son, whom he intended to exalt to every honor. I provided a land for you where you could have everything you needed to sustain your body in abundance. I have sent you the warmth and light of the Holy Spirit so that you might understand the true Christian faith, to which you have faithfully bound yourself and to whose sacred statutes and the obedience of Holy Church you have humbly submitted. I’ve also placed you in a position that’s quite fitting for a faithful servant—right among my enemies—so that for your earthly labors and your bodily struggle in battle, you might earn a more precious crown in my heavenly kingdom. I’ve also carried you for a long time in my heart—that is, in the love of my divinity—and I’ve guarded you like the apple of my eye through all your hardships and troubles. As long as you kept my commandments and faithfully observed the obedience and statutes of the Holy Church, then most certainly, countless souls from the kingdom of Cyprus reached my heavenly kingdom to enjoy eternal glory with me forever. But because you now follow your own will and whatever pleases your heart, neither fearing me—your Judge—nor loving me—your Creator who even redeemed you through my most painful death—you have spat me out of your mouth like something foul and tasteless. And because you've even invited the devil into the chamber of your heart to dwell alongside your soul, you've driven me out as well, like a thief and a robber, and you were no more ashamed to sin in my sight than irrational animals are in their mating. Therefore, it is a fitting justice and a just judgment that you be cast out of heaven by all my friends and placed forever in hell, in the midst of my enemies. And you should know this without a doubt: my Father, who is in me and I in him, and the Holy Spirit in both of us, is himself my witness that nothing but truth has ever come from my mouth. You should know this for a fact: whoever remains in the state you're in now and refuses to change will have their soul follow the same path as Lucifer, who went that way because of his pride; as Judas, who sold me because of his greed; and as Zimri, whom Phinehas killed because of his lust.✦ He did sin with a woman against my commandment, and for that reason, after his death, his soul was condemned to hell. Therefore, people of Cyprus, I announce to you that if you refuse to correct and amend yourselves, I will so wipe out your generation and offspring in the kingdom of Cyprus that I will spare neither the poor nor the rich. I will also wipe out that same generation of yours, so that in a short time your memory will fade from the hearts of men, as if you had never been born into this world.
The Promise of Restoration and Mercy
Christ offers a path of repentance for the people of Cyprus, promising to act as a loving shepherd to those who return to him.
Afterward, however, it is my pleasure to plant new shoots in this kingdom of Cyprus, which will carry out my commands and love me with their whole heart. But know for certain that whoever among you wants to correct and improve themselves and return to me with humility, I will meet them joyfully like a loving shepherd, lifting them onto my shoulders and personally carrying them back to my sheep. By my shoulders, I mean this: through the benefit of my passion and death—which I endured in my body and upon my shoulders—anyone who corrects themselves will share in it and receive eternal comfort with me in the kingdom of heaven. You should also know for certain that you, my enemies living in that kingdom, were not worthy for such a vision or my divine revelation to be sent to you. But some of my friends living in that same kingdom, who serve me faithfully and love me with their whole heart, have moved me through their labors and tearful prayers to make you understand, through this revelation of mine, the grave danger to your souls. For it was revealed by me to some of my friends there, in a divine way, how countless souls from that kingdom of Cyprus are being excluded from heavenly glory and condemned eternally to the death of hell.
The Call to Catholic Unity
Christ addresses the necessity of submission to the Roman Church for both Latin Christians and Greeks, concluding with the end of the vision.
I am speaking these words to those Latin Christians who are subject to the obedience of the Roman Church, who in their baptism vowed to me the true Roman Catholic faith, but who have completely turned away from me through works that are contrary to me. The Greeks, however, know that all Christians must hold to one single Catholic Christian faith and must be subject to one Church alone—the Roman—and that they must have over them one sole spiritual shepherd, my general vicar in the world, the Roman Supreme Pontiff. Yet, because they refuse to submit themselves spiritually and humbly to that same Roman Church and to my vicar—whether out of their own stubborn pride, greed, lust of the flesh, or anything else belonging to the world—they are unworthy to receive pardon and mercy from me after death. As for other Greeks who long to know the Catholic faith of Rome but are unable to, yet who would receive it devoutly and willingly if they could know it and were able to, and who nevertheless, according to their own consciences, abstain from sin and live piously within the state and faith in which they find themselves—to such as these, my mercy is owed in their sufferings after death, when they are called to my judgment. The Greeks should also know that their empire and kingdoms, or dominions, will never be secure or at peace; instead, they will always be subject to their enemies, suffering the most grievous losses and long-lasting miseries until they submit themselves with true humility and love to the Roman Church and faith, by conforming entirely to the sacred constitutions and rites of that same Church. Once these things had been seen and heard in the spirit, as described, the vision vanished, and the person remained in prayer, suspended in no small amount of fear and wonder.
