Mater Dei reuelat sponse, vbi fuerunt ille anime, quas Christus liberauit de inferno, quando descendit ad inferos, vsque dum ascendit in celum, et eciam vbi remanserunt corpora illorum, qui cum eo in Iherusalem resurrexerunt, quando eorum animas portauit secum in celum, et qualiter in resurreccione prius se ostendit Dominus eidem sue matri quam aliis. Et docet filiam, qualiter resistat temptacionibus.
The Risen Lord and His Mother
The Mother of God explains the state of the souls liberated at the Harrowing of Hell and recounts the Lord's first appearance to her after His resurrection.
The Mother of God says: "On a day like today, my Son rose from the dead, strong as a lion, because He crushed the power of the devil and rescued the souls of His elect, who ascended with Him into the joy of heaven." But you might ask where those souls were, whom He then freed from hell, until He ascended into heaven. I answer you that they were in a certain joy known only to my Son. For wherever my Son was and is, there was and is joy and glory, just as He said to the thief: 'Today you will be with me in paradise.' Many holy people who had died also rose in Jerusalem, whom we saw. Their souls ascended with my Son, but their bodies wait with the others for the judgment and the resurrection. As for me, the Mother of God, when I was grieving with an incomprehensible sorrow after His death, the same Son of mine appeared to me before anyone else; He showed Himself to me in a tangible way, comforting me and reminding me that He would visibly ascend into heaven. And although I haven't written this down out of humility, it is nonetheless the truth that my Son, when He rose again, appeared to me first before anyone else.
Remedies Against Temptation
Mary offers the visionary three specific prayers to serve as remedies against temptations of the mind, speech, and action.
Now, because my Son comforted me on this day just as he did today, I'll lessen your temptations from this day forward, and I'll teach you how to resist them. You're wondering why temptations are increasing in your old age—temptations you never experienced in your youth or during your marriage. I answer you that this happens so you might know that you are nothing, and can do nothing, without my Son. For if my Son hadn't saved you, there wouldn't be any sin in which you wouldn't have been entangled. Therefore, I'm giving you three remedies now against temptations. When you are tempted by impure thoughts, say: 'Jesus, Son of God, who know all things, help me so that I do not take pleasure in vain thoughts.' But when you feel the urge to speak, say: 'Jesus, Son of God, who remained silent before the judge, hold my tongue until I have considered how and what I should say.' Whenever you feel like working, resting, or eating, say: 'Jesus, Son of God, You who were bound, rule my hands and all my members, so that my actions may tend toward a good end.' Let this be a sign to you: from today on, your servant—that is, your body—will no longer rule over its mistress, your soul.
Perseverance in Prayer
Mary encourages the visionary to persist in prayer despite the devil's interference, assuring her that the effort itself is meritorious.
The Lady was tempted while she prayed. Mary said to her, "The devil is like an envious scout, looking to accuse and hinder the good." Therefore, no matter what temptation you face while praying, keep praying anyway and strive to pray, because your desire and your good effort will be counted for you as the actual fruit of your prayer. If you can't cast out the sordid thoughts that come to your mind, the effort will still be counted toward your crown, provided you haven't consented to the temptations and they remain against your will.
Read the original Latin
Mater Dei loquitur: "Tali die sicut hodie surrexit a mortuis filius meus fortis quasi leo, quia contriuit potenciam dyaboli et eripuit animas electorum suorum, que ascenderunt cum eo in gaudium celi.
Sed potes querere, vbi fuerunt ille anime, quas tunc liberauit de inferno, vsque dum in celum ascendit. Respondeo tibi, quod fuerunt in quodam gaudio noto solum filio meo.
Ideo do tibi nunc contra temptaciones tria remedia.
