Chapter 67Revel.6.67

The Three Ages of the World

The world is likened to a ship with three ages, moving from the strength of the law through the humility of the Incarnation toward the final age of judgment.

The Son says: "This world is like a ship." It's full of worries and tossed by the storms of temptation, and it never lets a person feel secure until they've reached the harbor of rest. Just as a ship has three parts—the bow, the middle, and the stern—so I describe the world as having three ages. The first age was from Adam until my incarnation. This is represented by the bow, which was high, wonderful, and strong: high in the piety of the patriarchs, wonderful in the knowledge of the prophets, and strong in the observance of the law. But this part began to decline little by little when the Jewish people, having scorned my commandments, got mixed up in crimes and acts of impiety. Because of this, they were cast out from their honor and their inheritance. The middle part of the ship—that is, of the world—began to appear when I, the Son of the living God, chose to become incarnate. Just as the middle of a ship sits lower and more humbly than the rest, so at my coming, humility began to be preached, along with every form of integrity, and for a long time many followed this path. But now, because wickedness and pride are growing, and my passion is all but forgotten and neglected, the third part is beginning to rise, which will last until the judgment.

Blessedness in the Final Age

Christ promises eternal happiness to those who hear and follow the words revealed in this final age.

In this age, I have sent the words of my mouth to the world through you; whoever hears them and follows them will be happy. Just as John says in the Gospel—not his own, but mine—'Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed,' so I say now: 'Blessed indeed, with eternal happiness, will be those who hear these words and follow them.'

The Coming of the Antichrist

The Antichrist will emerge at the height of human wickedness, preceded by the expansion of faith and the corruption of the Church.

At the end of this age, however, the Antichrist will be born. Just as children of God are born from a spiritual marriage, so the Antichrist will be born from a cursed woman who pretends to understand spiritual things, and from a cursed man. From their seeds, by my permission, the devil will form his work. But the time for this Antichrist won't be as that brother whose books you've seen described it; rather, it will be at a time known to me, when iniquity has overflowed all bounds and wickedness has grown beyond measure. You should know, therefore, that before the Antichrist arrives, the door of faith will be opened to some nations. Furthermore, when Christians embrace heresies and the wicked trample upon the clergy and justice, it's a clear sign that the Antichrist will come soon.

Media vero pars nauis, idest mundi, tunc apparere cepit, quando ego ipse, filius Dei viui, incarnari volui.

In fine vero etatis huius nascetur Antichristus.
