Reuelacio quarta in libro questionum, in qua Christus pulcherrime laudat omnia membra virginis Marie matris sue, moralizans dicta membra spiritualiter, comparando ea virtutibus, et pronunciat eandem virginem dignissimam esse reginali corona.

The Crown of Divinity

Christ reveals that the eternal crown of His divinity is reserved for the one who possesses the greatest love.

The Son says: "I am a crowned King in My divinity, without beginning and without end." The crown has neither beginning nor end, which signifies My power—a power that had no beginning and will have no end. Truly, I had another crown kept within myself, and that crown is, in fact, I myself, God. This crown, however, was prepared for the one who would have the greatest love for me; and this crown, my sweetest mother, you have won and drawn to yourself through your justice and love. For the angels and other saints bear witness to this: that your love for me was more ardent, and your purity more complete than all others, which pleased me above all else.

The Virtues of the Mother

Christ describes the spiritual beauty of Mary's members, comparing each to specific virtues and interior graces.

Your head was like shining gold, and your hair like the rays of the sun, because your most pure virginity—which is in you like the head of all virtues—and your restraint from all illicit impulses pleased me and shone in my sight with all humility. Therefore, you are rightly called a crowned queen over all created things: queen because of your purity, and crowned because of your excellent dignity. Your forehead was of incomparable whiteness, signifying the modesty of your conscience, in which the fullness of human knowledge resides and the sweetness of divine wisdom shines above all others.1 Your eyes were so clear in the sight of my Father that He saw Himself reflected in them; for in your spiritual vision and in the understanding of your soul, the Father saw your every desire, knowing that you wanted nothing but Him and desired nothing except according to Him. Your ears were perfectly pure and open, like beautiful windows, when Gabriel brought you my will, and when I, God, became flesh within you. Your cheeks were of the finest color—white and ruddy—because the fame of your praiseworthy deeds and the beauty of your character pleased me, and you were set on fire by them every day. God my Father truly delighted in the beauty of your character, and He never turned His eyes away from you; and through your love, everyone has obtained love. Your mouth was like a lamp, burning within and shining without, because the words and affections of your soul were burning inwardly with divine intelligence and shining outwardly through the praiseworthy order of your bodily movements and the beautiful harmony of your virtues. Truly, dearest Mother, the word from your mouth drew my divinity into you in a certain way, and the fervor of your divine sweetness never separated me from you, because your words are sweeter than honey and the honeycomb. Your neck is nobly held and beautifully lifted, because the justice of your soul is fully directed toward me and moves according to my will, for it has never been inclined toward any evil of pride. For just as the neck bends with the head, so every intention and action of yours bends toward my will. Your heart was so full of the sweetness of every virtue that there is no good in me that isn't also in you; for you drew all goodness into yourself from the sweetness of your character when it pleased my divinity to enter into you, and my humanity to dwell with you and drink the milk of your breasts. Your arms were beautiful because of your true obedience and your patience in labor.

The Dwelling of the Incarnate Word

Christ reflects on the intimacy of the Incarnation and confirms Mary's unique dignity as the Mother of God.

That’s why your hands held my humanity, and I rested peacefully in your arms, together with my divinity. Your womb was as pure as ivory and as brilliant as a place made of precious stones, because the constancy of your conscience and faith never grew cold, nor could it be corrupted even in tribulation. The walls of this womb—that is, your faith—were like the most brilliant gold, where the strength of your virtues is marked, along with your prudence, justice, and temperance, joined with perfect perseverance; for all your virtues were made perfect by divine love. Your feet were most pure and washed, like a garden full of fragrant herbs, because the hope and the affection of your soul were directed straight toward me, your God, and were fragrant as an example and an imitation for others. And so, this place of your womb—both spiritual and physical—was so desirable to me, and your soul so pleasing, that I didn't shrink from descending from the highest heaven to you and dwelling within you; on the contrary, I took the sweetest delight in it. Therefore, dearest mother, that crown which was kept in me—the crown that is, in fact, I myself, God, who had to be made flesh—could not rightly be placed on anyone but you, because you are truly mother and virgin.

Filius loquitur: "Ego sum coronatus rex in deitate mea sine principio et sine fine. Nec inicium habet corona nec finem, significans potestatem meam, que non habuit principium nec habebit finem.

Verum ego aliam coronam habui custoditam in me, que quidem corona sum ego ipse Deus.

Hec autem corona preparata fuit ei, qui maximam caritatem haberet ad me, et hanc coronam, dulcissima mater mea, vicisti et traxisti ad te tu cum iusticia et caritate.

Nam de hoc testimonium perhibent angeli et alii sancti, quod in te ardencior fuit caritas ad me et castitas tua purior omnibus, que placuit michi super omnes.

Caput quippe tuum fuit quasi aurum fulgens et capilli quasi radii solis, quia tua mundissima virginitas, que est in te quasi caput omnium virtutum, et continencia omnium illicitorum motuum placuerunt et fulserunt in conspectu meo cum omni humilitate.

Ideo merito vocaris coronata regina super omnia, que creata sunt; regina propter mundiciam, coronata propter excellentem dignitatem.

Frons tua fuit incomparabilis albedinis, significans verecundiam consciencie tue, in qua plenitudo est humane sciencie et dulcedo diuine sapiencie lucet in ea super omnes.

Oculi tui fuerunt in conspectu Patris mei sic lucidi, quod se speculabatur in eis, quia in spirituali visu tuo et in intellectu anime tue videbat Pater omnem voluntatem tuam, quod nichil volebas nisi ipsum et nichil desiderabas nisi secundum ipsum.

Aures tue fuerunt mundissime et aperte tamquam fenestre pulcherrime, quando protulit tibi Gabriel velle meum et quando ego Deus factus sum in te caro.

Gene tue fuerunt de optimo colore, scilicet albo et rubicundo, quia fama operum tuorum laudabilium et pulchritudo morum tuorum placuerunt michi, quibus cotidie inflammabaris.

Vere ex pulchritudine morum tuorum gaudebat Deus Pater meus et numquam auertit oculos suos a te, et ex caritate tua omnes optinuerunt caritatem.

Os tuum fuit quasi lampas, intus ardens et lucens abextra, quia verba et affecciones tue anime fuerunt ardentes interius diuina intelligencia et exterius splendentes ex disposicione laudabili tuorum motuum coporalium et concordancia pulcherrima tuarum virtutum.

Vere, mater carissima, verbum oris tui traxit quodammodo deitatem meam in te, et feruor diuine dulcedinis tue numquam separabat me a te, quia verba tua dulcia sunt super mel et fauum.

Collum tuum est nobiliter erectum et pulcherrime eleuatum, quia iusticia anime tue plene est erecta ad me et secundum velle meum mobilis, quia numquam inclinata fuit ad aliquod malum superbie.

Sicut enim collum curuatur cum capite, sic omnis intencio et operacio tua flectitur ad voluntatem meam.

Pectus tuum plenum fuit omni virtutum suauitate in tantum, quod non est bonum in me, quod non sit in te, quia traxisti omne bonum in te ex morum tuorum dulcedine, quando deitati mee placuit intrare ad te et humanitati mee habitare tecum et bibere lac mamillarum tuarum.

Brachia tua pulchra fuerunt per veram obedienciam et tolleranciam laborum. Ideo corporales manus tue tractauerunt humanitatem meam et quietus fui inter brachia tua cum deitate mea.

Venter tuus fuit mundissimus sicut ebur et sicut locus ex virtuosis lapidibus splendidissimus, quia constancia consciencie tue et fidei numquam tepuit sed nec in tribulacione potuit viciari.

Huius itaque ventris, idest fidei tue, parietes fuerunt quasi aurum fulgentissimum, in quibus notatur fortitudo virtutum tuarum et prudencia tua et iusticia et temperancia cum perfecta perseuerancia, quia ipse omnes virtutes tue perfecte fuerunt diuina caritate.

Pedes tui mundissimi et loti erant quasi pleni herbis odoriferis, quia spes et affectus anime tue erant recta ad me Deum tuum et odorifera ad aliorum exemplum et imitacionem.

Hic itaque locus ventris tui, tam spiritualis quam corporalis, tantum michi erat desiderabilis et tantum anima tua michi placita, quod a summo celo descendere ad te et in te morari non abhorrui, ymmo suauissime delectatus sum.

Ideo, mater carissima, corona illa, que custodiebatur in me, que quidem corona sum ego Deus, qui debebam incarnari, nulli debuit imponi nisi tibi, quia es vere mater et virgo."
