Revelationes (Heavenly Revelations)/Book 4 · Liber IV (partial)
Chapter 94Revel.4.94

The Sanctification of Daily Habits

Christ instructs his bride to align her outward appearance and daily dressing with inward humility and purity.

The Son of God speaks to his bride, saying: "Outer beauty is a sign of the inner beauty that a person ought to possess." So, when you put on a headband or a head covering to bind your hair, say this: O Lord God, I thank You for enduring me in my sin, and because, due to my lack of self-control, I am not worthy to see You. Therefore, I veil my hair.” And the Lord added: "Incontinence is so abominable to me that even a virgin who harbors a desire for lust is not a pure virgin in my sight, unless she has corrected that desire through penance." When you veil your forehead, say: 'O Lord God, who created all things well, and who created man more excellently than all others in your own image, have mercy on me!' And because I haven't kept the beauty of my face for your honor, I therefore veil my forehead.' When you put on your shoes, say: 'Blessed are You, my God, who command me to wear shoes so that I may be strong and not lukewarm in Your service.' Strengthen me, therefore, so that I may walk in Your commandments.' In all your other clothing, let there be complete humility, and in all your movements, a modest and restrained demeanor.

Prayers for Sustenance and Rest

The Lord provides specific prayers for the bride to offer when approaching the table for meals and when retiring for the night.

When you come to the table, say: 'O Lord God, if You willed it, as You are able, that we could exist without food, I would gladly ask it of You.' Now, however, because you command us to eat with discernment, I ask you: grant me restraint in eating, so that by your grace I may eat according to the necessity of nature and not as the craving of the flesh demands. When you go to sleep, say: 'Blessed are you, God, who arrange the changing times for us for the relief and comfort of soul and body!' I ask you, give my body rest tonight and keep me unharmed from the power and illusion of the enemy.'

Filius Dei loquitur ad sponsam dicens: "Pulchritudo exterior significat pulchritudinem interiorem, quam homo debet habere. Ideo cum imponis tibi vittam seu velum capitis, qua stringuntur capilli, dicito:

'O, Domine Deus, gracias tibi ago, quia supportasti me in peccato meo et quia propter incontinenciam meam non sum digna videre te. Ideo velo capillos meos.'"

Conforta igitur me, ut in mandatis tuis possim ambulare.'

Rogo te, da corpori meo requiem in hac nocte et serua me illesam a potestate et illusione inimici.'"
