The Desire for Divine Visitation
The bride prays for souls to recognize the warmth of the Holy Spirit and turn away from earthly vanities.
O sweetest Jesus, Creator of all things that have been created! If only they would recognize and understand the warmth of Your Holy Spirit! For then they would desire heavenly things more, and would more fervently loathe earthly things.
The Obstacles of Excess
The Spirit explains that worldly excess and material superfluity block the soul from receiving divine grace and angelic presence.
Immediately, a response came to me in the spirit: "Their excess and superfluity," it said, "resist the visitations of the Holy Spirit." For excess in food and drink and in the invitations of friends gets in the way, so that the Holy Spirit cannot become sweet to them, and they cannot be satisfied by the delights of the world. Excess in gold and silver, in vessels and clothing, and in income gets in the way, preventing the spirit of my love from inflaming and kindling their hearts. Excess in servants, horses, and animals also resists, preventing the Holy Spirit from drawing near to them. In fact, their servants—my angels—distance themselves from them, and the devil’s traitors draw near. That is why they don't know that sweetness and the visitation with which I, who am God, visit holy souls and my friends."

Excessus vero in auro et argento, in vasis et vestimentis et in redditibus obsistit, ne spiritus caritatis mee inflammet corda eorum et accendat. Excessus quoque in famulis et equis et animalibus resistit, ne Spiritus sanctus appropinquet eis;
