Chapter 117Revel.4.117

The Triune Promise of Grace

The Lord responds to the prayer of the bride by promising the protection of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.

As someone was reading the Our Father, the bride heard how the Spirit then said: "Friend, I answer you on behalf of the Godhead that you will have an inheritance with your Father." Second, on behalf of my humanity, that you will be my temple. Third, regarding the Spirit: you won't face temptations beyond what you can bear. For the Father will defend you, the humanity of Christ will stand by you, and the Spirit will set you on fire.

The Fatherly Compassion of God

God describes His intimate, active presence in the lives of those who desire Him, likening His care to that of a loving parent.

Just as a mother runs to her child with joy when she hears his voice, and just as a father meets his son halfway to help him carry his load when he sees him working, so I come to my friends, making all their difficulties easy and helping them carry them with cheerfulness. And just as someone who sees something desirable isn't comforted unless it draws closer, so I draw near to those who desire me.

A Vision of the Incarnate Word

A specific account of a brother's vision of Christ in the Eucharist and his foreknowledge of his own death.

This brother saw our Lord Jesus Christ in the priest's hands during the elevation of the Body of Christ; He appeared as a young child and said to him, "I am the Son of God and the Son of the Virgin." He also foresaw his own death and the hour of it a year in advance, which is recounted in many chapters of the legend of the holy lady; this brother was named Gerekinus.

Hic frater vidit in manu sacerdotis tempore eleuacionis corporis Christi in specie pueruli Dominum nostrum Ihesum Christum dicentem sibi: "Ego sum Filius Dei et Filius Virginis."
