Revelationes (Heavenly Revelations)/Book 4 · Liber IV (partial)
Chapter 101Revel.4.101

The Sweetness of the Divine Heart

The Mother of God describes the infinite sweetness and enduring mercy of her Son's heart, which remains open to the sinner until the very end.

The Mother of God speaks: "The heart of my Son is as sweet as honey and as clean as the purest spring, because whatever virtue and goodness exists flows from him as from its source." He is also most sweet. After all, what is sweeter to a sensible person than to reflect on His love in creation and redemption, in His labor and teaching, and in His grace and patience?1 His love, you see, isn't fluid like water, but expansive and enduring; for His love remains with a person until the very end, to such a degree that if a sinner were standing at the very gates of destruction, and even then cried out to Him with a desire to amend their life, they would be rescued.

Two Paths to the Heart of God

The Mother of God reveals that the heart of her Son is accessible through the humility of true compunction and the frequent contemplation of His passion.

There are two ways to reach the heart of God. The first is the humility of true compunction, which leads a person into the heart of God and into spiritual conversation.2 The second way is reflecting on the passion of my Son, which removes hardness from a person's heart and makes them run joyfully to the heart of God.

Read the original Latin

Prima est humilitas vere contricionis et hec inducit hominem in cor Dei et in colloquium spirituale.

Secunda via est consideracio passionis Filii mei, que remouet duriciam a corde hominis et facit hominem currere gaudenter ad cor Dei."

Notes

  1. 1The term 'sensato' here refers to one who is spiritually aware or has a 'sensible' heart, rather than merely rational.
  2. 2Compunction: sorrow for sin pierced by grace.
