The Golden Scripture
The vision introduces the authority and supreme value of the Holy Scriptures as the foundation for all spiritual reward.
A person appeared to the bride with hair that looked shorn in disgrace; his body was anointed with oil and entirely naked, yet he felt no shame. He said to the bride, "The Scripture you call holy says this: no work will be without its reward." This is the scripture you call the Bible, but for us, it shines like the sun, glowing brighter than gold and bearing fruit like a seed that yields a hundredfold. For just as gold excels all other metals, so the Scripture that you call holy—but which we call the Golden Scripture—excels all other writings. For in it the true God is honored and proclaimed, the works of the patriarchs are recounted, and the inspirations of the prophets are explained.
The King's Reckoning
A stern critique of a ruler who has betrayed his divine trust and neglected his duties through greed and injustice.
Since no work goes unrewarded, listen to what I say: this king is a predator before God, a betrayer of souls, and a reckless squanderer of wealth. Just as no traitor is worse than the one who betrays someone who loves him, so this man has betrayed many spiritually by loving the unjust in a worldly way, unjustly exalting the wicked, suppressing the righteous, and ignoring the faults that needed correction. Second, there is no thief worse than the one who betrays the person who rests their head upon his chest. The community of the land was, as it were, in his own bosom, yet this king has miserably plundered it. He lets others' property be stolen, places intolerable burdens on people, ignores the injuries done to them, and always half-heartedly exercises justice. Third, no thief is worse than the one who, having been entrusted with everything and given the keys, steals from his master against his will. This person received the keys of power and honor, which he used unjustly and wastefully, not for the honor of God.
The Path of Return
Practical counsel is offered for repentance, urging the abandonment of worldly honors in favor of the narrow path of Christ.
Therefore, because he has let go of some things that were pleasing to him for the love of me, I advise him to do three things. First, he should be like the son in the Gospel who, having left behind the husks of the swine, returned to his father. In the same way, he should despise riches and honors. In light of eternal things, these are nothing but husks for pigs as you return to your Father, God, with humility and devotion. Second, let the dead bury their own dead, and follow the narrow way of the crucified God. Third, let them leave behind the heavy burden of their sins and start on that path which is narrow at the beginning, but joyful in the end.
The Witness of the Beloved
John the Evangelist reflects on his own life of suffering, humility, and ultimate reward as a model for the soul.
You too, who see me, understand that I am the one who came to know the golden Scripture more fully, and by knowing it, I increased it. I was stripped in shame, but because I endured it patiently, God clothed my soul in an immortal garment. I, too, was anointed with oil; that is why I now rejoice in the oil of everlasting gladness. Furthermore, after the Mother of God, I passed from this world through a very gentle death, because I was made the guardian of the Mother of God, and my body rests in a place of the greatest peace and security.

Apparuit sponse persona quedam hominis, cuius crines videbantur circumcisi cum obprobrio, corpus perunctum erat oleo totumque nudatum, sed nichil erubescens;
aliorum bona auferri permittendo, aliis intolerabilia imponendo, aliorum iniurias dissimulando, iusticiam semper remisse exercendo.
Ego fui nudatus ignominiose, sed quia pacienter sustinui, Deus vestiuit animam meam veste immortali.
Ego eciam fui intinctus oleo; ideo nunc gaudeo oleo leticie sempiterne.
