The Deception of Appearances
The Lord warns against judging by outward reputation, exposing the hidden corruption of a false pilgrim.
The Son of God says to his bride: "You're surprised by these two: one who was like a squared stone, and the other a pilgrim from Jerusalem." But neither one reached what you were hoping for. The first—the one you were sent to—was a squared stone, firm in his own ideas, yet still like Thomas, doubting in a devout way. Because the time for the fullness of human wickedness hadn't yet arrived, he tested the wine but didn't drink it. Regarding the second, I said that the Jerusalemite was a traveling companion. This was done so that you might know the true state of the one whom reputation had called just and holy. He wears the habit of a religious and is a monk by profession, yet he is an apostate in his conduct; he is a priest in dignity, but a slave to sin; he is a pilgrim in reputation, but a wanderer in his intentions; he is a citizen of Jerusalem in the eyes of others, but at heart, he is more of a Babylonian. Furthermore, he has acted against obedience and the apostolic statutes. He is completely infected with heresy, to the point that he believes and claims he will be the pope who restores all things, and his own books bear witness to this.1
Divine Clarity and Guidance
God promises to clarify His words and offers Himself as the true companion to the soul.
Therefore, he will die suddenly and, unless he takes care of himself, he will be joined to the father of lies. So don't be troubled if some things are spoken obscurely, or if the things predicted don't happen according to your own thinking, because the words of God can be understood in different ways. And as often as this happens, I will reveal their truth. But now, I am the true God of Jerusalem. Therefore, I myself wish to be your traveling companion."
The Mercy of God in Judgment
The Lord clarifies the final state of the 'squared stone,' distinguishing his imperfect love from those who actively persecuted Him.
The Spirit of God says: "You have heard of that dead man I spoke to you about, who was a squared stone and yet piously doubting." So, know that he won't be numbered among those who tested God in the desert, nor with those who sought a sign, as the prophet Jonah did." He won't be with those who stirred up persecution against me, but he will be with those who had zeal and love, though not a perfect love."
