Chapter 38Revel.1.38

The Father's Gift of the Bride

The Father entrusts the bride to the Son, who accepts her with a prayer of total surrender and divine union.

The Father said to the Son, "I came with love to the Virgin and took your true body from her." Therefore, you are in me and I am in you. Just as fire and heat are never separated, so it will be impossible for the divinity to be separated from the humanity." The Son replied, "All glory and honor be to You, Father!" May Your will be done in me, and mine in You!" The Father answered again: "Look, my son, I am entrusting this new bride to you, like a sheep for you to guide and nourish." From her, as the owner of the sheep, you’ll have cheese for refreshment, milk for drinking, and wool for clothing." But you, bride, must obey him. For three things are required of you: you must be patient, obedient, and willing. Then the Son said to the Father: "Your will with power, power with humility, humility with wisdom, wisdom with mercy." May your will be done, which is and will be without beginning and without end in me! I take her to myself into my love, into your power, and into the guidance of the Holy Spirit—who is not three gods, but one God."

The Call to Simplicity and Patience

The Son instructs his bride to emulate the simplicity and fruitfulness of a sheep.

Then the Son said to His bride, "You have heard how the Father has assigned you to me like a sheep." You must, therefore, be simple and patient like a sheep, and fruitful in providing nourishment and clothing."

The Threefold Need of the World

The Son explains the spiritual states of the world—nakedness, thirst, and hunger—and how his words provide the remedy.

For there are three in the world. The first is completely naked, the second is thirsty, and the third is hungry. The first represents the faith of my Church, which is naked because everyone is ashamed to speak about the faith and my commandments. And if anyone does speak of them, they are despised and accused of lying. Therefore, the words that come from my mouth must clothe this faith like wool. For just as wool grows on the body of a sheep from its warmth, so my words proceed from the warmth of my divinity and humanity into your heart; they will clothe my holy faith with the testimony of truth and wisdom, and will prove it to be true—even though it is now considered empty—so that those who have been lukewarm until now about clothing their faith with works of charity may, upon hearing the charity of my words, be converted and rekindled to speak with confidence and act with strength. The second group represents my friends who, like someone thirsting, long for my honor to be fulfilled and are troubled when I am dishonored. Once they hear the sweetness of my words, they'll be intoxicated by a greater love for me; and others, who are now dead, will be stirred to love me when they hear what grace I show to sinners. The third group refers to those who think to themselves: 'If we only knew the will of God,' they say, 'and how we ought to live, and were well instructed in the right way, we would gladly do whatever we could.' These people are like those who hunger to know my way, yet no one satisfies them, because no one shows them perfectly what they ought to do. And even if it is shown to them, no one lives according to it. That is why these words seem dead to them, because no one lives by them. Therefore, I will show them what they should do, and I will satisfy them with my sweetness. For the things of this world, which are visible and currently sought after by almost everyone, cannot satisfy a person; instead, they only stir up more and more desire to keep searching. But my words and my love will satisfy people and fill them with abundant consolation.

The Path of Obedience and Withdrawal

The Son concludes by calling the bride to obedience and the rejection of pride.

Therefore, my bride, you who are my sheep, make sure to maintain patience and obedience. For you have been made mine through every righteousness. And for that reason, you must follow my will. Anyone who wants to follow another's will must have three things: first, a shared consensus with them; second, similar actions; and third, a withdrawal from their enemies. And what are my enemies, if not pride and all sins? You must therefore turn away from these things if you want to follow my will.

Ideo tu in me et ego in te.

Fiat voluntas tua in me et mea in te!"
