The Willing Sacrifice of Love
Christ reveals his voluntary suffering and deep love for his bride, urging her to reciprocate that love.
The Son of God spoke to his bride, saying: "I am the Creator of heaven and earth, and it is my true Body that is consecrated on the altar." Love me with your whole heart, because I loved you, and I willingly handed myself over to my executioners, while my friends and my mother were left in the bitterest sorrow and weeping. And when I saw the spear, the nails, the whips, and the other instruments of my passion prepared, I still moved forward, joyful, to meet my passion. And even though my head was bloodied on every side by the crown and blood flowed everywhere, and even if my enemies had gone on to pierce my heart, I would rather have suffered it to be torn and wounded than to be without you.
The Imitation of the Suffering Members
Christ instructs the bride to mortify her senses and dedicate her members to his service, mirroring his own passion.
You're being far too ungrateful if you don't love me in return for such great love. For if my head was pierced and bowed down on the cross for you, your head ought to be bowed in humility. And because my eyes were bloodied and full of tears, your eyes should refrain from sights that only bring pleasure. And because my ears were filled with blood and heard words of mockery against me, your ears should turn away from vulgar and foolish talk. And because my mouth was given a most bitter drink and was kept from what is good, your mouth should be closed to what is evil and opened to what is good. And because my hands were stretched out with nails, your works—which are represented by the hands—should be stretched out to the poor and to my commandments. Let your feet—that is, your affections, by which you ought to walk toward me—be crucified by worldly pleasures, so that just as I suffered in all my members, all your members may be ready for my service. I demand greater service from you than from others, because I have shown you greater grace.

Filius Dei loquebatur ad sponsam dicens: "Ego sum creator celi et terre, et corpus meum verum est, quod in altari consecratur. Dilige me toto corde, quia ego dilexi te et ego spontanee tradidi me inimicis meis, et remanserunt amici mei et mater mea in amarissimo dolore et fletu.
Cumque viderem lanceam, clauos, flagella et alia passionis genera parata, processi nichilominus letus ad passionem. Cumque caput meum esset undique corona cruentatum et undique sanguis flueret et eciamsi adhuc inimici tetigissent cor meum, magis hoc paterer diuidi et vulnerari, quam te carere vellem.
Propterea nimis ingrata es, si me pro tanta caritate non dilexeris. Si enim caput meum punctum est et inclinatum in cruce pro te, caput tuum debet inclinari ad humilitatem. Et quia oculi mei erant sanguinolenti et pleni lacrimis, ideo oculi tui debent abstinere a delectabili visu.
