Preces Quotidianae

A Doxology of Humble Praise

The prayer offers glory to God for His perfections and mercy, extends praise to all saints and creatures, and humbly places the sinner under their feet, now and forever.

Glory to you, Lord; glory to you. Glory to you, and glory to your most holy Name, for all your divine perfections in themselves; for your unspeakable and incomparable goodness, and your mercy toward sinners and the unworthy, and toward me, by far the most unworthy of all sinners; for these things, and for others too: glory and honor and praise and blessing and thanksgiving, with the tongues and the harmony of tongues of angels and of men,12 and of all your saints in the heavens, and of every creature of yours, whether in heaven or on earth,3 And under their feet me, the unworthy and wretched sinner, your humble creature—now, on this day, and at this hour, and every day until my last breath, and until the end of the age,4 and forever and ever.5

Read the original Latin

Gloria tibi, Domine, tibi gloria, Gloria tibi, et Sanctissimo tuo Nomini gloria, propter omnes tuas in ipsis Divinas perfectiones ; Propter ineffabilem et incomparabilem bonitatem, et misericordiam tuam in peccatores, et indignos, in meque peccatorum omnium longe indignissimum ; Propter hzc, propterque alia, Gloria et honor, et laus, et benedictio, et gratiarum actio, Linguis, et concentu linguarum, Angelorumque et hominum,

Omniumque in colis Sanctorum tuorum, Omnisque, qua in colo, qua in terra, Creaturz tuse,

Notes

  1. 1 ↩Source reads "hzc"; translated as "haec" ("these things"), the only plausible intended form.
  2. 2 ↩"in ipsis" is rendered "in themselves" (the divine perfections as they are in themselves). The plural referent is slightly opaque; less likely is a vague "in them" without a clear antecedent.
  3. 3 ↩Normalized corrupt OCR forms: colis/colo → caelis/caelo; qua…qua → quae…quae; Creaturz tuse → Creaturae tuae. Sense is clear from prayer context continuing the genitive chain after Angelorumque et hominum.
  4. 4 ↩Normalized several corrupt/OCR forms for sense: mel → me; creature tuz → creaturae tuae; Nune → Nunc; die hoe → die hoc; sseculi → saeculi. The line continues the previous genitive litany of the saints and creatures by placing the speaker under their feet.
  5. 5 ↩Source reading `szeula sceculorum` is almost certainly corrupt OCR for liturgical `saecula saeculorum` ('ages of ages' / 'forever and ever'); translation follows that intended formula, continuing the preceding temporal escalations in 1.97.3.
