Preces Quotidianae
Longing for Conversion
The soul earnestly seeks conversion by turning inward, remembering the last things, and grieving over past sin.
I am looking entirely for my conversion, having left behind, in1 me—by turning back to the heart, by remembering the last things, by shame, horror, and grief for the sin that came before.✦2
Cry for Mercy
A repeated plea for more grace, followed by acknowledgment that God grants hope of forgiveness through penance and the Church's sacramental keys.
More and more, still more, again and again, Lord. You have given me good hope for its forgiveness—through penance and its works, through the power of the most holy Keys and of the Sacraments in your Church.✦3
Thanksgiving and Wholehearted Prayer
The soul confesses and gives thanks for God's countless benefits, both remembered and forgotten, and prays with whole soul and mind.
Day by day, for these benefits of yours brought to my mind, and for the many others that have passed by—because they are so numerous and because I forget—bestowed on me when I was willing, aware, and asking, and when I was not asking, unaware, and unwilling—I confess, and I give you thanks; I bless and praise you as best I can, every day; and I pray with my whole soul,4 And I pray with my whole mind.

Notes
- 1 ↩Sentence ends mid-phrase at 'Relictis in.'; continuous sense almost certainly runs into s2 ('…in me'). Rendered as an open ablative absolute of means ('having left behind / by forsaking') pending cleaner witness.
- 2 ↩'Conversione ad cor' is taken as the biblical 'return/turn to the heart' (inner conversion), not merely emotional feeling. 'Memoria novissimorum' is the traditional remembrance of the last things.
- 3 ↩Normalized 'eoncessisti' as 'concessisti' (you have granted). 'Ejus'/'ipsius' taken as referring back to the preceding sin (peccati).
- 4 ↩Normalized OCR forms: 'alüs'→'aliis', 'prseteritis'→'praeteritis', 'pre multitudine'→'prae multitudine' (on account of their multitude). 'Pro virili' rendered as the idiom 'as best I can' (pro virili parte). Section ends mid-period; next section continues 'Et ex tota mente precor.'
