Preces Quotidianae
Pardon and Cleansing
A litany of petitions for the forgiveness, cleansing, healing, and complete removal of sins.
Slight offenses, impieties, transgressions — injustices, defilements. Guilt: grant grace, give pardon, forgive, overlook, be merciful, spare; do not charge it against me, do not set it down against me, do not remember it.1 Stain: pass over it, pass by it, do not look on it; overlook it, cover it, wash it away, blot it out, cleanse it.2 Weakness: remit it, heal it, make it whole; take it away, remove it, carry it off, abolish it, annul it, scatter it.34 Let them not be found. Let them not remain.5
Virtue's Ladder
A prayer for the progressive growth of Christian virtues, from faith to charity, based on 2 Peter 1:5-7.
Supply, in faith, virtue; in virtue, knowledge; in knowledge, self-control; in self-control, patience; in patience, godliness; in godliness, brotherly love; in brotherly love, charity.✦6
Assurance of Calling
A plea not to forget past purification but to strive through good works for a sure calling and election, echoing 2 Peter 1:9-10.
Nor to forget the purification of my former sins, but to strive through good works for my sure✦7 calling and election sure.✦8

Scripture echoes
- ↩2Pet.1.5-2Pet.1.7 — And for this very reason, make every effort to supplement your faith with virtue, and virtue with knowledge, 2Pet.1.6 — and in knowledge self-control, and in self-control endurance, and in endurance godliness, 2Pet.1.7 — and in your godliness, brotherly love; and in brotherly love, love.
- ↩2Pet.1.9-2Pet.1.10 — For whoever lacks these things is blind, squinting, having received forgetfulness of the cleansing of his former sins. 2Pet.1.10 — Therefore, brothers, be all the more eager to confirm your calling and election, for if you practice these things you will never stumble.
Notes
- 1 ↩Reatus functions as the head-noun of the litany (guilt as charged status), followed by stacked mercy-imperatives. Gratiam fac rendered as grant grace per lexeme policy for gratia as divine gift/favor.
- 2 ↩Normalized reading takes 'T'ransi as Transi and Preeteri as Praeteri (pass by), treating the quoted T-split and oe spelling as OCR/print artifacts.
- 3 ↩Normalized reading takes 'T'olle as Tolle and strips the stray quote before Transfer as OCR artifacts.
- 4 ↩Languor can mean spiritual debility, disease, or faintness; rendered weakness to keep the medical-healing frame of medere/sana without over-specifying.
- 5 ↩Ne sint is bare existential prohibition; rendered remain rather than bare be to keep the force of wished-away guilt without awkward English.
- 6 ↩In 4 treated as a non-text print/OCR marker and omitted; open parenthesis after Ministrare treated as scribal noise. The chain matches 2 Peter 1:5–7; Charitatem kept as charity for the terminal theological virtue.
- 7 ↩Clause is incomplete at section end: certam meam awaits vocationem / electionem facere in the next section (2 Pet 1:9–10 phrasing).
- 8 ↩Continues the prior infinitive construction (satagere … certam meam … facere): ‘to strive by good works to make my calling and election sure.’ certam belongs to the previous section; facere completes the ‘make sure’ sense with vocationem et electionem.
