Preces Quotidianae

Preces Quotidianae

I know that my skin will rise again on the earth,✦ with which this body suffers.1 I believe I will see the good things of the Lord✦ in the land of the living. In the Lord our heart will rejoice,2 and we have placed our hope in His holy name.3 In the Name of the Father, the Savior, the Mediator; of the Intercessor, the Redeemer, the Paraclete; under the twin types of the Lamb and the Dove.4 Let your mercy, Lord, be upon us, just as we have hoped in You. In peace let us pray to the Lord: for the peace from above, and for the salvation of our souls; for the peace of the whole world, the stability of God's holy churches, and the union of all; for this holy house, and for those who enter it with faith and reverence; for our holy fathers, the venerable priesthood, the deacons who serve in Christ, and all the clergy and people; for this holy dwelling place, and for every city and region, and for the faithful who live in it; for seasonable weather, and for the fertility of the earth's fruits,5

Scio quod in terra resurget pellis mea,

qua hsc patitur. Credo videre bona Domini

in terra viventium. In Domino lxtabitur cor nostrum,

etin nomine sancto Ejus speravimus.

Patris, Η Servatoris, Mediatoris, Nomine : : Intercessoris, Redemptoris, Paracleti Gemini ; Typis Agni, Columbze. Fiat misericordia tua, Domine, super nos,

quemadmodum speravimus in Te.

IN pace Dominum rogemus, Pro pace superna, et salute animarum nostrarum ; Pro pace universi mundi, stabilitate sanctarum Dei Ecclesiarum, et omnium unione ; Pro domo hac sancta, et eam cum fide et reverentia ingredientibus ; Pro sanctis Patribus nostris, Venerabili Presbyterio, Diaconis in Christo ministrantibus, omnique Clero et Plebe; Pro sancta hac habitatione, omnique civitate et regione, et fidelibus eam incolentibus ; Pro temperie coli, fertilitate frugum terree,

Scripture echoes

  1. ↩Job.19.25-Job.19.26 — But I know that my Redeemer lives, and at the last he will stand upon the dust." "Dust" better links to mortality and verse 26 while remaining clear. Job.19.26 — And after my skin has been thus destroyed, yet from my flesh I shall see God
  2. ↩Ps.27.13 — Had I not believed that I would see the goodness of the LORD in the land of the living...

Notes

  1. 1 ↩Source reads 'hsc', almost certainly a corruption of 'haec'. Rendered as 'qua haec patitur' continuing the previous clause on the skin that will rise again: 'with which this body suffers.'
  2. 2 ↩Source reads lxtabitur; translated as laetabitur (will rejoice), the expected psalm form continued by the next section's et in nomine sancto Ejus speravimus.
  3. 3 ↩Source reading 'etin' is almost certainly a spacing/OCR error for 'et in', completing the psalm line begun in the previous section ('In Domino laetabitur cor nostrum'). Translated as 'et in'.
  4. 4 ↩Source text is corrupt/OCR-damaged (stray 'Η', double colons, 'Columbze'). Reading as genitives under Nomine, with Gemini modifying Typis, and Columbæ for Columbze.
  5. 5 ↩Normalized source ends mid-petition with OCR-like forms coli and terree. Rendered as the standard litany sense temperie caeli / frugum terrae (seasonable weather; fertility of the earth's fruits); the petition continues in the next section.
