Preces Quotidianae

A Prayer of Praise to the Sovereign God

A prayer of blessing and praise drawn from 1 Chronicles 29, ascribing majesty, power, glory, sovereignty, and thanksgiving to God.

You are blessed, Lord, God of Israel, our Father, from everlasting to everlasting, 1 Chron.1 29. 10. Yours, Lord, is the majesty, and the power, and the glory, and the victory, and power—for everything in heaven and on earth is yours.2 (v. 11.] Before your face every king is thrown into confusion, and every nation.✦ Yours, Lord, is the kingdom, and you are exalted above all things, and above every dominion. From you come riches, and from your presence glory: you rule over all, Master of every dominion; in your hand are strength and power, and in your hand are greatness and sovereignty over all.✦3 Now therefore, our God, we give you thanks, and we praise your glorious name.45 xxix, 12, 13]6

Read the original Latin

BENEDICTUS es, Domine, Deus Israel, Pater noster, ab zterno in zternum, 1 Chron. xxix. 10. Tua est, Domine, Magnificentia, et Potentia, et Gloria, atque Victoria,

et potestas, Cuncta enim qui in ccelo sunt, et in terra tua sunt. (Vers. 11.] A vultu tuo conturbatur omnis Rex, Et gens omnis. Tuum, Domine, Regnum, et tu es celsus super omnia, et super omne dominium. Abs te divitize, et a facie tua gloria: Tu dominaris omnium, Dominator omnis Dominationis, in manu tua virtus et potentia, Et in manu tua magnitudo, et imperium omnium. Nune igitur, Deus noster, confitemur tibi, et laudamus nomen tuum inclytum. xxix, 12, 191]

Scripture echoes

Notes

  1. 1 ↩Source reads “ab zterno in zternum”; treated as the intended “ab aeterno in aeternum” (from everlasting to everlasting).
  2. 2 ↩Normalized reading treats 'ccelo' as 'caelo' and 'qui' (with neuter 'cuncta') as intended 'quae'.
  3. 3 ↩Reading 'divitize' as 'divitiae' (riches); 'Abs te' as 'Ab te' / 'Abs te' (from you).
  4. 4 ↩Reading 'Nune' as 'Nunc'.
  5. 5 ↩'confitemur tibi' can mean confess/acknowledge or give thanks; in this thanksgiving-prayer context rendered as 'we give you thanks'.
  6. 6 ↩Citation fragment 'xxix, 12, 191]' most plausibly intends 1 Chronicles 29:12–13; '191' treated as OCR corruption of '13'.
