Preces Quotidianae

Mercy for Those Far Away

Ask God to show the same abundant mercy to those absent for just causes as to us.

Remember also those who are away for just causes, and have mercy on them just as on us. According to the abundance of Your mercy.

Fill and Keep All Your People

Pray for material provision, peace in marriage, care for every age and condition, and restoration of all to the Church.

Fill our storehouses with every good thing.1 Keep our marriages in peace and harmony; nourish the little children; instruct the young; uphold those who are old; comfort the faint-hearted; gather the scattered; bring back those who have wandered, and join them to Your holy, Catholic, and Apostolic Church; free those tormented by unclean spirits; grant those at sea a safe voyage and travelers a safe journey; protect widows; guard orphans; free captives; heal the sick.✦2

Remember Every Distress and Every Heart

Call on God to remember all who suffer, and both those who love us and those who hate us.

O God, remember those standing before the courts, those in the mines, those in exile or on the galleys, and everyone in any distress, need, or adversity; remember all who need Your great mercy, and those who love us.34 and those who hate us,

Scripture echoes

  1. ↩Jas.1.27 — Religion that is pure and undefiled before God the Father is this: to visit orphans and widows in their affliction, and to keep oneself unstained from the world.

Notes

  1. 1 ↩Source reading ommi is treated as omni ('every'); promptuaria rendered as storehouses (pantries/granaries).
  2. 2 ↩Normalized several OCR corruptions to the standard litany sense: Enutn→Enutri; Sanctz tux→Sanctae tuae; Catholiezw→Catholicae; Apostolice Ecclesie→Apostolicae Ecclesiae; JEgrotantibus→Aegrotantibus. The Navigantibus…Viatoribus…itineris span is broken by garbled tokens (TES ARS) and was rendered as the conventional petition for a safe voyage and journey.
  3. 3 ↩Source reads dilhgentium; translated as diligentium (those who love us), which fits the following section et odio habentium and the continuing genitive objects of memento.
  4. 4 ↩metallis = mines as places of forced penal labor; triremibus = war galleys (convict rowers). Rendered as mines and galleys for modern accessibility while keeping the ancient categories of affliction.
