Chapter 42PrecesPriv.1.42

Preces Quotidianae

Intercessions

Prayers for the glory of God's name, for benefactors of the poor, and for those who have been scandalized by the speaker.

for the glory of God's name, or1 4.2 about to yield for the Church some great3 may there be4 good. For those who show themselves as benefactors in sacred things toward the poor.5 For those who by deed or word have ever been scandalized by me6 have been scandalized.7

Prayer for Mercy and Renewal

A prayer for God's mercy and blessing, a citation of Psalm 67, a petition for personal renewal, and an affirmation of God's power to accomplish it.

May God have mercy on me and bless me; may he make his face shine upon me, and may he have mercy on me.8 May God bless me. Psalm.9 67.10 1, 6, 7. Receive my prayer. Direct my life toward your commandments. Sanctify my soul. Purify my body. Correct my thoughts. Cleanse my desires—soul and body, mind and spirit, heart and inmost depths.1112 Renew my whole self, Lord. For if only you want to, you can.

Invocation of the Lord

A fragmentary invocation of the Lord's name, referencing Exodus 34:6.

1. Lord, Lord, 2.13 God✦

Scripture echoes

  1. ↩Exod.34.6 — And the LORD passed before him and proclaimed, 'The LORD, the LORD, a God merciful and gracious, slow to anger, and abounding in steadfast love and faithfulness.'

Notes

  1. 1 ↩Continues the incomplete intention in PrecesPriv.1.41.3 (Pro iis, quibus insigne aliquod opus prae manibus est). Nomini Dei Gloria read as dative of purpose: for the glory of God's name. Trailing aut introduces the alternative that follows in s3–s5a.
  2. 2 ↩Isolated digit '4 .' has no recoverable Latin syntax. Treated as OCR/pagination debris (as elsewhere in this text when stray 4 appears), not as intentional list content.
  3. 3 ↩Reading proventura unde Ecclesiae magnum aliquod, ignoring stray '4' as OCR noise; Ecclesie normalized to Ecclesiae (dative). proventura taken as future participle: work/results about to come forth. Completes the alternative after aut in s1; sense finishes with sint/sit bonum in s4–s5.
  4. 4 ↩Source 'simt.' corrected to sint (or sit with singular bonum). Taken as the subjunctive verb of the preceding purpose/result clause.
  5. 5 ↩Opening bonum completes the prior clause (magnum aliquod bonum sint/sit). prebent corrected to praebent. Parallel cleaner formula elsewhere: Qui beneficos se praebent, res sacras, vel erga pauperes et egenos.
  6. 6 ↩Hyphenated scandali- plus following section 'zati fuerint.' reconstructs as scandalizati fuerint. Trailing '2 )' treated as OCR debris. unquam read as umquam.
  7. 7 ↩Source fragment 'zati fuerint.' is almost certainly the broken remainder of scandalizati fuerint, continuing previous PrecesPriv.1.42.1.s6 ('...scandali-'). Rendered as the past-passive clause completion 'have been scandalized.'
  8. 8 ↩Source ends with 'misereatur mel'; treated as intended 'misereatur mei' (on me), matching the first clause and the personalized psalm form.
  9. 9 ↩Source abbreviation Psa/. expanded as Psalm (Psalmus); not prose content.
  10. 10 ↩Roman numeral lxvii rendered as 67. Neighboring text echoes Vulgate Ps 66 (Deus misereatur); later stages should resolve Vulgate vs. Hebrew psalm numbering.
  11. 11 ↩Source has an unmatched opening parenthesis after meam, ( likely a print/layout artifact; not reproduced in the English.
  12. 12 ↩renes rendered as inmost depths (biblical reins: the seat of deep feeling and will), not the anatomical kidneys.
  13. 13 ↩Printed numeral "2." is embedded after the doubled address Dominus, Dominus; rendered in place rather than moved.
