The Hidden Fountain
The soul contemplates the nature of the divine fountain, recognizing its eternal, unoriginated, and luminous source despite the darkness of faith.
I know well the fountain that flows and runs, even though it is night. That eternal fountain is hidden, and I know well where it flows from, even though it is night. I don't know its origin, for it has none, but I know that all origins come from it, even though it's night. I know that nothing could be so beautiful, and that both heaven and earth draw life from it, even though it is night. I know that nothing so beautiful can be found in it, and that no one can reach it, even though it's night. Its clarity is never obscured, and I know that all light comes from it, even though it is night.
The Abundant Currents
The soul reflects on the overwhelming power and reach of the fountain's currents, which sustain all of creation.
I know that their currents are so abundant. That hells, heavens, and people flow, even though it’s night. I know well that the current flowing from this source is so capable and powerful, even though it is night. The current that flows from these two, I know that neither precedes it, even though it is night.
The Living Bread
The soul finds the hidden fountain revealed within the Eucharist, inviting all creatures to partake of its life-giving water.
This eternal fountain is hidden in this living bread to give us life, even though it's night. The creatures are being called here, and they are filled with this water, even though it is dark because it is night. I see this living fountain I long for in this bread of life, even though it is night.
