Chapter 35Ansl.1.35

ORATIO XXXV. AD CHRISTUM. Ante perceptionem corporis Christi.

Adoration and Intercession Before Communion

The soul adores Christ's body and blood given for the forgiveness of sins, petitions for worthy reception, and then intercedes for all servants, handmaids, and the Church.

Lord Jesus Christ, Son of the living God — who by the will of the Father, with the Holy Spirit at work alongside you, gave life to the world through your death — I adore and venerate your holy body and your blood, which was handed over and poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins. I beg for your mercy, most compassionate Lord: through the power of these, make me one of that great number, and grant that I may perceive this through faith and devotion in such a way that I truly grasp its saving effect. Absolve and set free your servants and your handmaids — me and all who have confessed their sins to me, and those for whom I have promised, or am bound, to pray, and those who hope or ask to be helped through my prayers before you — from every sin and from the punishment of sin. And grant your Church to rejoice in continual protection and consolation.

There are 90 more prayers where these came from

Chosen Portion delivers the full Anselm collection — and the wider royal devotional archive — one daily prayer at a time, free.

Anselm told Adeliza to take these prayers a little at a time, and Chosen Portion does exactly that — serving the collection as paced daily portions rather than a book to skim.

  • Pray through all 97 of Anselm's prayers and meditations, one portion each day
  • Each prayer is broken into short sections so a 100-sentence meditation fits a 10-minute sitting
  • Morning reminder at your chosen time, so the day starts with a written prayer instead of a blank
