Ad Vesperas
Ad Vesperas
It is said to be complete with the Invitatory and three Nocturns, and the Antiphons are repeated, both for Vespers and for Matins, on the day of all the faithful departed, on the day of deposition, and on the anniversary of any deceased person, with only one prayer, as noted below; and for Vespers, the Psalm "Praise the Lord, my soul" is omitted, and for Lauds, "Out of the depths," is said for the remainder of the year, as is noted. It begins with the Absolute: Ant: Placebo Domino. Psalm 114: I love the Lord, because he has heard the voice of my supplication. Because he inclined his ear to me, I will call on him as long as I live. The cords of death encompassed me; the perils of the grave confronted me. I found trouble and sorrow; then I called upon the name of the Lord. O Lord, deliver my soul; merciful is the Lord and just; our God is merciful. The Lord protects the simple; I was brought low, and he saved me. Return, O my soul, to your rest; for the Lord has dealt bountifully with you. For he has delivered my soul from death, my eyes from tears, and my feet from falling. I will please the Lord: in the land of the living. Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon them. Ant: I will please the Lord in the land of the living. Ant: Alas for me. Psalm 119: When I was in trouble, I cried out to the Lord, and he heard me. Lord, deliver my soul from wicked lips and a deceitful tongue. What shall be given to you, or what shall be added to you, to a deceitful tongue? Sharp arrows of the mighty, with coals of the broom tree. Woe is me, for my dwelling is prolonged; I have dwelt with those who dwell in Cedar: my soul has been very much a stranger. With those who hate peace, I was peaceful: when I spoke to them, they fought against me without cause. Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon them. Ant: Woe to me, Lord, for my dwelling is prolonged. Ant: Lord. Psalm 120: I lift up my eyes to the mountains: from where will my help come? My help comes from the Lord, who made heaven and earth. He will not let your foot slip; he who watches over you will not slumber. Indeed, he who watches over Israel will neither slumber nor sleep. The Lord watches over you; the Lord is your shade at your right hand. The sun will not harm you by day, nor the moon by night. The Lord will keep you from all harm; he will watch over your life. The Lord will watch over your coming and going both now and forevermore. Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon them. Ant: May the Lord protect you from all evil; may the Lord guard your soul. Ant: If there are iniquities. Out of the depths I cry to you, O Lord: Lord, hear my voice. Let your ears be attentive to the voice of my supplication. If you, Lord, should mark iniquities, Lord, who could stand? But there is forgiveness with you, that you may be feared. I wait for the Lord; my soul waits, and in his word I hope. My soul waits for the Lord more than watchmen for the morning: more than watchmen for the morning. O Israel, hope in the Lord! For with the Lord there is steadfast love, and with him is plentiful redemption. And he will redeem Israel from all his iniquities. Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon them. Ant: If you, Lord, keep track of iniquities, Lord, who could stand? Ant: Works. I will give you thanks, Lord, with all my heart, for you have heard the words of my mouth. In the presence of the angels, I will sing to you; I will bow down toward your holy temple and give thanks to your name. For your mercy and your truth are great; you have magnified your name above all things. In whatever day I call upon you, hear me: you will multiply strength in my soul. Let all the kings of the earth give you thanks, Lord, for they have heard all the words of your mouth. And let them sing in the ways of the Lord, for great is the glory of the Lord. For the Lord is high, and he sees the lowly; but he knows the proud from afar. If I walk in the midst of tribulation, you will revive me: and you will stretch out your hand against the wrath of my enemies, and your right hand will save me. The Lord will repay for me; Lord, your mercy endures forever. Do not despise the work of your hands. Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord: and let perpetual light shine upon them. Lord, do not despise the work of your hands. I heard a voice from heaven saying to me. Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord. But: Everything. The Canticle of the Blessed Virgin Mary. 1: My soul magnifies the Lord. And my spirit rejoices in God my Savior. For he has looked upon the humility of his servant; behold, from now on all generations will call me blessed. For he who is mighty has done great things for me, and holy is his name. And his mercy is from generation to generation for those who fear him. He has shown strength with his arm; he has scattered the proud in the imagination of their hearts. He has put down the mighty from their thrones and exalted those of low degree. He has filled the hungry with good things, but the rich he has sent away empty. He has taken Israel to himself, remembering his mercy. As he spoke to our fathers, to Abraham and his descendants forever. Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon them. Ant: Everything that the Father gives me will come to me, and I won’t turn away anyone who comes to me. The following prayers are said on weekdays while kneeling: Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name: thy kingdom come: thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven: give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation. But deliver us from evil. Praise the Lord, my soul; I will praise the Lord as long as I live; I will sing to my God while I have my being.✦ Don't put your trust in princes, in human beings, who cannot save.✦ When their spirit departs, they return to the ground; on that very day their plans come to nothing.✦ Blessed is the one whose help is the God of Jacob, whose hope is in the Lord their God, who made heaven and earth, the sea, and everything in them.✦ The Lord watches over the foreigner and sustains the fatherless and the widow, but he frustrates the ways of the wicked.✦ The Lord sets the prisoners free; the Lord gives sight to the blind.✦ The Lord lifts up those who are bowed down; the Lord loves the righteous.✦ The Lord watches over the foreigner, supports the fatherless and the widow, but he frustrates the ways of the wicked.✦ The Lord will reign forever, your God, O Zion, from generation to generation. Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon them. From the gate of hell. Deliver, Lord, their souls. May they rest in peace. Amen. Lord, hear my prayer. Let my cry come to you. Prayer: God, who made your servants among the Apostolic priests to thrive in the dignity of the priesthood: grant, we ask, that they may also be joined forever in their company. God, giver of mercy and lover of human salvation, we ask for your mercy: that our brothers, relatives, and benefactors who have passed from this world, through the intercession of blessed Mary ever virgin and with all your saints, may attain the company of eternal happiness. God, creator of all the faithful and redeemer of the souls of your servants, grant remission of all sins to them: that they may obtain the forgiveness they have always desired through their pious supplications. Who lives and reigns forever and ever. Amen. Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord. And may perpetual light shine upon them. May they rest in peace. Amen.

Absolute incipitur:
Ant: Placebo Domino.
Psalmus 114: Dilexi, quoniam exaudiet Dominus: vocem orationis meae. Quia inclinavit aurem suam mihi: et in diebus meis invocabo. Circumdederunt me dolores mortis: pericula inferni invenerunt me. Tribulationem, et dolorem inveni: et nomen Domini invocavi. O Domine, libera animam meam, misericors Dominus, et iustus: et Deus noster miseretur. Custodiens parvulos Dominus: humiliatus sum, et liberavit me. Convertere anima mea in requiem tuam: quia Dominus benefecit tibi. Quia eripuit animam meam de morte: oculos meos a lacrymis, pedes meos a lapsu.
Placebo Domino: in regione vivorum.
Requiem aeternam dona eis Domine: et lux perpetua luceat eis.
Ant: Placebo Domino in regione vivorum.
Ant: Heu mihi.
Psalmus 119: Ad Dominum cum tribularer, clamavi: et exaudivit me. Domine libera animam meam a labiis iniquis: et a lingua dolosa.
Ant: Dominus.
Psalmus 120: Levavi oculos meos in montes: unde veniet auxilium mihi.
Ant: Si iniquitates.
Psalmus 129: De profundis clamavi ad te Domine: Domine exaudi vocem meam. Fiant aures tuae intendentes: in vocem deprecationis meae. Sustinuit anima mea in verbo eius: speravit anima mea in Domino. A custodia matutina usque ad noctem: speret Israel in Domino.
Ant: Si iniquitates observaveris Domine, Domine quis sustinebit?
Ant: Opera.
Psalmus 137: Confitebor tibi Domine in toto corde meo: quoniam audisti verba oris mei. In conspectu angelorum psallam tibi: adorabo ad templum sanctum tuum, et confitebor nomini tuo. Super misericordia tua, et veritate tua: quoniam magnificasti super omne nomen sanctum tuum. In quacumque die invocavero te, exaudi me: multiplicabis in anima mea virtutem. Confiteantur tibi Domine omnes reges terrae: quia audierunt omnia verba oris tui. Et cantent in viis Domini: quoniam magna est gloria Domini. Quoniam excelsus Dominus, et humilia respicit: et alta a longe cognoscit. Si ambulavero in medio tribulationis, vivificabis me: et super iram inimicorum meorum extendisti manum tuam, et salvum me fecit dextera tua.
Dominus retribuet pro me, Domine misericordia tua in saeculum: opera manuum tuarum ne despicias.
Requiem aeternam dona eis Domine: et lux perpetua luceat eis.
Ant: Opera manuum tuarum Domine ne despicias.
Audivi vocem de caelo dicentem mihi.
Beati mortui qui in Domino moriuntur.
Ant: Omne.
Canticum Beatae Mariae Virginis Luc. 1: Magnificat: anima mea Dominum .
Preces infrascriptae in ferialibus diebus dicuntur flexis genibus:
Pater noster, qui es in caelis, sanctificetur nomen tuum: adveniat regnum tuum: fiat voluntas tua, sicut in caelo et in terra: panem nostrum quotidianum da nobis hodie et dimitte nobis debita nostra, sicut et nos dimittimus debitoribus nostris.
Et ne nos inducas in tentationem.
Sed libera nos a malo.
Psalmus 145: Lauda anima mea Dominum: laudabo Dominum in vita mea: psallam Deo meo quamdiu fuero. Dominus solvit conpeditos: Dominus illuminat caecos. Dominus erigit elisos: Dominus diligit iustos. Dominus custodit advenas, pupillum et viduam suscipiet: et vias peccatorum disperdet.
Regnabit Dominus in saecula, Deus tuus Sion: in generatione et generationem.
Requiem aeternam dona eis Domine: et lux perpetua luceat eis.
A porta inferi.
Erue Domine animas eorum.
Requiescant in pace.
Amen.
Domine exaudi orationem meam.
Amen.
Requiem aeternam dona eis Domine.
Et lux perpetua luceat eis.
Requiescant in pace.
Amen.
