The faithful are invited to express their inward gladness through music and vocal praise for God's work in the Church.
Come now with song in sweet tones, and delight yourselves with the music of strings; sing out, and show everywhere that you are glad at heart. Shout for joy to honor God; increase His praise—He who has done such a great work for His Church.1
The Posture of Gratitude
Drawing on the example of Israel, the reader is encouraged to humble themselves before God and offer praise to Him alone.
In Israel that was the way: fall at the Lord's feet with her as well, so that everyone now may praise and exalt God, who does us so many kindnesses. Cry out everywhere with a great shout: may praise, honor, and thanks be to God alone, and to no one else.
Sunshine After the Storm
Reflecting on God's historical faithfulness, the text celebrates His mercy in turning past suffering into present blessing.
In times past the Lord has helped his people out of much fear and pain; he does send a dark cloud, yes—but after that, fair sunshine again. Praise be to the Lord, who after much sorrow and hardship gives us again much blessing and good fortune.

In Israel was dat een wyse, Valt met haer oock den Heer te voet; Dat elck nu toch God roem' en prijse, Die ons soo veel weldaden doet. Roep over al Met groot geschal: Lof, prys en danck alleen Sy God, en anders geen.
De Heer heeft eertydts synen volcke Geholpen uyt veel ancxt en pyn, Hy geeft ja wel een duyster wolcke, Maer weer daer na schoon Sonnen-schyn. Lof sy die Heer Die ons oock weer Geeft, na veel smert en druck, Veel segen en geluck.
