Chapter 92MedVC.1.92

Quod Dominus apparuit discipulis in Hierusalem

The Disciples Gather and Share Their News

The two returning disciples arrive in Jerusalem and share their encounter with the risen Lord, while the others report that He has also appeared to Simon.

The two disciples mentioned earlier returned at once to Jerusalem, and finding the other disciples gathered together—Thomas being absent—they told them these things. But they also heard at the same time that the Lord had risen and had appeared to Simon.

The Risen Lord Appears Among Them

Jesus enters through closed doors, stands among the disciples, and greets them with 'Peace be with you.'

Then the Lord Jesus came in to them, the doors being closed, and stood in their midst and said to them, 'Peace be with you.'

Confession, Forgiveness, and the Proof of His Body

The disciples confess their abandonment, receive forgiveness, and Jesus shows them His wounds while opening their understanding of the Scriptures.

The disciples, however, fell to the ground, confessing their guilt in having abandoned him so, and received him with great eagerness. The Lord therefore said, 'Rise, my brothers, because all your sins are forgiven you.' He stood familiarly among them and showed them his hands and his side, and opened their understanding so that they might grasp the Scriptures and recognize his resurrection.

Eating Together and the Gift of the Spirit

Jesus eats with the disciples to confirm His bodily resurrection, then breathes the Holy Spirit upon them.

He asked them if they had anything to eat, and he ate in their presence a piece of roasted fish and a honeycomb of honey. He breathed on them and said to them, 'Receive the Holy Spirit.'

Joy at the Sight of the Lord

The chapter closes by reflecting on the delight and gladness of these events, as the disciples rejoiced at seeing the risen Lord.

You see how these things are full of every delight and gladness; the disciples rejoiced, therefore, when they saw him.
