XX. De igne et virtutibus.

XX. De igne et virtutibus.

The Holy Spirit is truly an unquenchable fire, which can never be extinguished, and He gives all good things, ignites all good things, raises all good things, teaches all good things, and grants speech to man in His flame. For he, like fire, shows humility through strong forces in its ardor, which underlies everything and is considered the least of all. And that fiery ardor has a chill, namely, patience, and a moisture in benevolence, which circulates everywhere, and which is the work of humility, the foundation of sanctity, which builds up to the heights through the air, where even evil spirits are so stirred that they are brought to nothing.
