XLVII. De poenis ob maleficium jjurgatoriis
XLVII. De poenis ob maleficium jjurgatoriis
And I saw a great swamp, like a blazing fire, emitting a foul stench, and filled with a multitude of serpents and other worms, in which the souls of those were tormented who, while they were in their bodies, had engaged in wickedness, so that they had practiced many magical and sorcerous arts with various creatures. Therefore, evil spirits brought many reproaches against them, saying: "These people truly have no Lord." Because they had neglected true faith and followed incredulity in their actions, they burned in this fiery swamp; and since they had not considered what they should do, they felt the stench of that same swamp; and because they had placed their trust in elements and in other creatures, believing in them more than in God, they were tormented by the aforementioned worms; and because they had delighted in such wretched practices, they were infested by the insults of evil spirits. And I saw and understood these things.
