LX. De infidelitatis poenis purgatoi*its
And I saw a great fire, surrounded by the deepest darkness, under which there was also a foul mud of incredible length and breadth; but in that fire and in that same mud, many horrible forms of worms were scurrying about. In these punishments were the souls of those who, while living in this world, did not trust in God, but regarded Him as if He were a mere statue of no value. Because of the wickedness they harbored within themselves, they burned in this fire; and due to their infidelity, since they refused to look to God, they were surrounded by the same darkness; and because of their disbelief, which turned all fitting joy of God's creation into slander and pain, they became infected with this filth; and because of their lack of trust, since they did not hope in God, they endured the torment of the worms.
