VII. Verba Inanis Gloriae.

I diligently seek all the causes, and I bear witness that I can understand them well through integrity. So, what I see and what I know is how I should abandon honesty in that? I also trust that I can fly through the streets and alleys, just like the birds that live in the woods and sing whatever they want. I want to learn their song and sing according to it, mixing it with human understanding, and I will practice the manners of the courtly beasts with the beauty of girls. I arrange all that is mine in such a way that everyone who sees me may rejoice in them, and that all who hear me may give me honor in them; so that everyone may also marvel at my integrity. For I am like a harp with the birds, and a courtier with beasts, and wise among men. I gather all joyful things to myself with a commendable delight. And when I do these things, who is there that can compare to me? If I don't seek, I won't find anything; and if I don't ask, nothing will be given to me, because prosperity doesn't come to me unless I acquire it through wisdom and my own integrity. I count as nothing if it bothers someone and is serious that I am wise and good, but I want to have my glory. And why should these things be displeasing to God, since I was created in this way?
