LVIIII. Quorum Deus venter.

Those who love the belly often cry out against God, and they try to provoke Him to injury, saying, "Why did God create us for glory, when He seems to take it away from us, as if we shouldn't have it at all?" Aren't we going to do what pleases us? It must be said that their god is their belly, because they turn all their intention, concern, and desires toward satisfying their own appetites, and since their plans are according to their own will, all their actions oppose the fulfillment of their belly.

Qui enim ventris ingluviem diligunt, multoties contra Deum clamant, et eum ad injuriam provocare contendunt, dicentes: « Cur Deus ad gloriam nos constituit, ♦ cum eam nobis abstrahat, quasi eam habere non debeamus?

Num illud non faciemus quod nos delectat? * De his dicendum est, quod venter eorum Deus eonim sit, quia omnem intentionem et sollicitudinem ac desideria sua ad impletionem ventris sui convertunt, et quoniam secundum voluntatem eorum consilia ipsorum sunt, quia omnia opera sua inghiviei ventris sui opponunt.
