LXIII. Diabolus ad idololairiam inducit

Therefore, it also breathes out a most terrible cloud, which touches the whole earth like the darkest smoke, because it emits a great deal of unbelief, which obscures the entire world with the darkness of its own wickedness, from which it also roars with the loudest howls, saying: "No one should worship another God except the one he sees and knows." And what is this that a person worships without knowing it? Because through this same infidelity, wicked persuasions instill in people that they should worship no god except the idols that are seen and known, and thus they turn away from the true God, who is invisible to human weakness in the clarity of divinity, and they lose their rationality.

Quapropter etiam teterrimam nebulam efflat, quae totam terram velut nigerrimus fumus tangit, quoniam plurimam infidelitatem emittit, quae totum mundum tenebrositate perversitatis suae obnubilat, ex qua etiam maximos rugitus intonat, dicens: « Quod nullus homo alium Deum adoret, nisi quem videt, et cognoscit.

Et quid sit hoc, quod homo colit quod nescit?» quia per eamdem infidelitatem iniquae persuasiones hominibus inculcant, quod nullum Deum colant praeter idola quae videntur et sciuntur, et sic a vero Deo, qui in claritate Divinitatis humanae infirmitati invisibilis est, rationalitatem hominis avertunt.
