XXI. Verba Isaiae»

He is also the man about whom the prophet says: "The Lord will go out like a mighty warrior; like a man of war, He will stir up zeal; He will shout aloud; He will raise a war cry; He will prevail over His enemies."^✦ His sense is such. Before the ancient days, the Lord had come forth with the strongest power; so that His will for life was present in every kind of creature, and the life He created brought forth prosperity in many ways. And that same man established all good things completely in the ancient council, and arranged the entire structure of virtues in such a way that there is no emptiness found in it; hence, he fought with great fullness against his enemies, whose very essence is pride, which first attempts to ascend before it sees the ladder; and which first sits down before a seat is placed; and whose work is mere opinion, which, when it fails, goes to destruction. For that same man, in the fullness of his powerful work, kindled a blazing fire in the angelic order, which completely cast down the enemy, when he wanted to darken the heavens with the darkness of his wickedness. And so, in the most powerful force of God's will, and in the joy of victory, a shout arose as the angelic host cried out, saying: "Who is like God?" In that shout, like a mighty wind of winds, all the heavenly host proclaimed that he had fallen, and they rejoiced that from now on there would be no ruin to be seen in the heavens. Thus the ancient enemy fell in darkness, empty of light and filled with the joy of life, and he gathered his bow and arrows against the will of this warrior.
