Chapter 24SavLaud.1.24

Gloria, laude et onore sia a te

The King of Glory

The faithful offer praise to Christ as the promised King of Israel and the Redeemer of the world.

Glory, praise, and honor be to you, King Christ the Redeemer, to whom the beauty of children sang their devout hosanna. You are the King of Israel, the noble descendant of David, who come as the blessed King in the name of the Lord.

Universal Praise

Heaven and earth unite in praise for the King who suffered for humanity and now reigns in glory.

The entire heavenly choir praises you in the heights of heaven, and with them, mortal man and every creature.1 The Hebrew people came to meet you with palms; we stand before you with prayer, vows, and praise. They praised you when you were about to suffer death; we, now that you reign, sing our praises to you.2

Scripture echoes

  1. John.12.13They took the branches of the palm trees and went out to meet him, and they were shouting, 'Hosanna! Blessed is the one who comes in the name of the Lord, even the King of Israel!'
  2. John.12.13They took the branches of the palm trees and went out to meet him, and they were shouting, 'Hosanna! Blessed is the one who comes in the name of the Lord, even the King of Israel!'

Notes

  1. 1Source 'insienie' read as insieme ('together'); 'omo' as uomo ('man').
  2. 2Italian Lei is feminine singular, referring back to la plebe ebrea ('the Hebrew people'); rendered as 'They' for natural English collective reference.
