Chapter 27PonetCatechism.1.27

The image that man was made after.

The Image of God in Man

The Master asks what image man was made after, and the Scholar answers that it is the perfect righteousness and holiness of God, seen in Christ, but now barely visible in us.

Master. What image is that, in whose likeness you say man was made? Scholar. That is the most complete righteousness and perfect holiness, which belongs most closely to the very nature of God, and appeared most clearly in Christ, our new Adam.1 Of which, scarcely any sparks are to be seen in us.
