Those who are contemplative and are deeply consumed by the love of eternity, just as the higher beings exist in the most fervent and precious love of the eternal, so they rarely or never engage in external ministries and do not seek the dignity of rank and honor. Rather, they hold themselves within, always ascending to Christ with a joyful and harmonious mind, filled with praise. For in this, the Church is to strive for an angelic hierarchy, in which the heavenly angels are not sent to external matters, but continually assist God. Thus, those who are highest in love and contemplation of Christ focus solely on the divine aspects, and they do not seek authority among people; instead, it is reserved for others who are more occupied with worldly affairs and enjoy less of the inner delights. Every chosen person has their state preordained by God. While one is chosen for a higher calling, the other strives to devote himself solely to God; and for this reason, God elevates him inwardly, so that he may set aside all external distractions. Such holy ones are indeed considered lesser by people, as they rarely go out to perform miracles, since they remain focused on the inner life. To those who rightly submit themselves to divine service and govern their subordinates discreetly, signs are often granted, either in life or after death, even to others who live before men in unheard-of affliction of the flesh; likewise, they may also be severely tormented in purgatory for a time. Not all saints perform or have performed miracles, either in life or after death, nor do all the wicked lack miracles in life or after death. The judgment of God is hidden, so that the wicked, seeing the signs of their sins, become worse, while the good, disregarding those things that can be commonly found among both the good and the wicked, may burn more deeply in the love of their Creator. Some have done good works, but they sought not divine glory but human glory, and these perish after death, yet they have this: that they desire what is in this world. For it often happens that those who are only moderately good and less perfect perform miracles, and frequently those who are the highest, established in heavenly seats before the face of God, remain completely at rest, having their own merits among the highest choirs of angels. Because the feast of Saint Michael is celebrated in a special way, yet one of the highest orders of angels is not believed to be among them. Some who turn to God and seek repentance, abandoning secular affairs, rejoice in their thoughts, if their name is honored by their descendants after their death. A faithful servant of Christ won't have any regard for this, so that he doesn't lose everything he works for. What is common to both the good and the wicked should not be desired, for the saints do not seek such things; rather, let love and spiritual virtues be continually rooted in our hearts, as they not only guard the soul from the decay of sin but also elevate the body to eternal remembrance in judgment. Everything that happens here quickly fades away; there, however, it will either lead to honor or to confusion without end. Let those who are active and distinguished, known for their virtue and knowledge, continually place themselves above contemplatives, and let them consider themselves superior before God. And as long as they don't consider themselves worthy of contemplation, unless perhaps divine grace inspires them to this end.

Quin immo intra se seipsos retinentes, Christo cum laudis iubilo canore mente semper ascendunt.

Tales denique sanctissimi sunt, et tamen ab hominibus minores estimantur, qui rarius egrediunt ad miracula facienda, eo quod solummodo interioribus manent.
