Der dritte Teil: Von der Dankbarkeit — 50. Sonntag

Trusting God for Daily Provision

This section explains the fourth petition of the Lord's Prayer as a call to rely entirely on God's blessing for our physical needs rather than on our own efforts or created things.

What does the fourth request mean: 'Give us this day our daily bread'? In this, we pray: Provide us with everything necessary for our bodies and our lives. Teach us to recognize that you alone are the source of all good, and that without your blessing, our worries and our work, as well as your gifts, are of no use to us. Therefore, let us turn our trust away from all creatures and place it solely in you.

Was bedeutet die vierte Bitte: „Unser tägliches Brot gibt uns heute"? Damit beten wir: Versorge uns mit allem, was für Leib und Leben nötig ist. Lehre uns dadurch erkennen, dass du allein der Ursprung alles Guten bist und dass ohne deinen Segen unsere Sorgen und unsere Arbeit wie auch deine Gaben uns nichts nützen. Lass uns deshalb unser Vertrauen von allen Geschöpfen abwenden und es allein auf dich setzen.

Rule yourself daily, not just on retreat

Chosen Portion turns the mirror into a daily practice — a short reading and examining question each morning before you lead anyone.

Chosen Portion makes the mirror daily: the ruler-formation questions this collection preserves become a two-minute morning examination in the app.

  • A daily formation reading drawn from centuries of counsel to those in authority
  • One pointed examination question a day — two minutes, before the meetings start
  • Track your practice over weeks and watch the examined life become a habit
