The faithful adore Christ for his redemptive work and contemplate his final moments of agony and death on the cross.
We adore you, O Christ, and we bless you, because by your holy Cross you have redeemed the world.✦ Consider how your Jesus, after three hours of agony on the cross, finally exhausted by pain, lets his body go, bows his head, and dies.✦
A Prayer of Surrender
The believer expresses personal devotion to the dying Savior, seeking grace and commending their soul into his hands.
O my dead Jesus, with a tender heart I kiss this cross on which you died for me.1 Because of my sins I have deserved a bad death; but your death is my hope. By the merits of your death, grant me the grace to die embracing your feet and burning with love for you. Into your hands I commend my soul.✦
An Act of Perfect Love
The prayer concludes with an act of contrition and a total surrender of the self to the love and will of Jesus.
I love you, my Jesus, more than myself; with all my heart I repent of having offended you. Forgive me, and do not allow me to be separated from you. Grant that I may always love you, and then do with me as you please.

Ti adoriamo, o Cristo, e ti benediciamo, perché con la tua santa Croce hai redento il mondo.
Considera come il tuo Gesù dopo tre ore di agonia sulla croce, finalmente consumato dai dolori si abbandona con il corpo, china la testa e muore. – O morto mio Gesù, bacio intenerito codesta croce, ove per me sei morto. Io per i miei peccati ho meritato di fare una cattiva morte; ma la tua morte è la mia speranza. Per i meriti della tua morte concedimi la grazia di morire abbracciato ai tuoi piedi e ardendo d’amore per te. Nelle tue mani raccomando l’anima mia.
Io ti amo, Gesù mio, più di me stesso, mi pento con tutto il cuore di averti offeso. Perdonami e non permettere che mi separi da te. Fa’ che sempre ti ami e poi disponi di me come ti piace.
