The Stripping of the Innocent
The faithful contemplate the brutal stripping of Jesus and the physical agony he endured for our redemption.
We adore you, O Christ, and we bless you, because by your holy Cross you have redeemed the world.✦ Consider how Jesus was violently stripped by the executioners: because his garment had stuck to his flesh, torn open by the scourges, when they ripped it from him they tore away his skin as well.✦
A Prayer for Holy Detachment
A personal prayer asking for the grace to detach from earthly things and remain united to the love of Jesus.
Have compassion on your Lord and say to him: My innocent Jesus, by the merit of the pain you felt then, help me to strip myself of every attachment to the things of this earth, so that I may place all my love in you, who are so worthy to be loved. I love you, my Jesus, more than myself; I repent with all my heart for having offended you. Forgive me, and do not let me be separated from you. Grant that I may always love you, and then do with me as you please.

Ti adoriamo, o Cristo, e ti benediciamo, perché con la tua santa Croce hai redento il mondo.
Considera come venendo Gesù spogliato dai carnefici con violenza, poiché la veste si era attaccata alle carni lacerate dai flagelli, nell’essergli strappata gli fu strappata anche la pelle. – Compatisci il tuo Signore e digli: Innocente mio Gesù, per il merito del dolore che allora sentisti, aiutami a spogliarmi di tutti gli affetti alle cose di questa terra, affinché io riponga tutto il mio amore in te, che sei così degno di essere amato.
Io ti amo, Gesù mio, più di me stesso, mi pento con tutto il cuore di averti offeso. Perdonami e non permettere che mi separi da te. Fa’ che sempre ti ami e poi disponi di me come ti piace.
