Chapter 5ErfEnch.1.5

Got sey gelobet

The Gift of His Body and Blood

A prayer of thanksgiving for the Eucharist, acknowledging Christ's sacrifice as the ultimate gift for our life.

Praised and blessed be God, who has fed us with himself. With his flesh and his blood—may the Lord God grant that it be for our good. Lord, have mercy. Lord, through your holy Body, born of your mother Mary, and through your holy blood, help us, Lord, in every need. Lord, have mercy. His holy body was given up to death for us, so that through it we might live. He couldn't have given us a greater gift to remember him by. Lord, have mercy.

The Wonders of Atoning Love

A reflection on the power of Christ's blood to pay our debt and reconcile us to God.

Lord, your love was so great that it compelled you, and your blood worked great wonders for us. It paid our debt, so God became gracious toward us. Lord, have mercy.1

Living in Grace and Unity

A petition for the Holy Spirit to guide the community in love, peace, and faithful living.

May God bless us all with his grace, so that we may walk in his ways. May we live in true love and faithfulness to one another, so that this food brings us no regret.2 Lord, have mercy. Lord, never let your Holy Spirit leave us; may he teach us to keep the proper measure. Then may your poor Christian people live in peace and unity. Lord, have mercy.

Notes

  1. 1Early New High German “holt” means favorably disposed or gracious, not the modern English sense of “hold.”
  2. 2Literally, “so that the food may not cause us regret.” The line may imply that the meal should neither harm the recipients nor become an occasion for remorse.

Never lose the rhythm again

Chosen Portion delivers your morning, midday and night office to your phone — the Hours, without the bells.

Chosen Portion is a modern Book of Hours: it turns the fixed-hour structure this collection preserves into scheduled, tappable daily prayer on your phone.

  • Three daily prayer moments scheduled around your real calendar, not a monastery's
  • Psalms and historic prayers sequenced for you — no page-flipping or decision fatigue
  • A visible streak of completed offices, so the rhythm compounds instead of collapsing
