Chapter 11DanPsalm.1.11

Sonnet eller Suk i Klingeriim

The Burden of Earthly Fortune

The author reflects on the unequal distribution of worldly burdens and the necessity of accepting one's lot.

How often do I sigh because of that harsh fortune, which is distributed by the Lord's hand to everyone, not with equal burdens in all lots, while all are in a rush, and each one must bear their own, even if they wear crowns upon their heads, and are counted among the many beggars! But each must accept their destined piece of fate, and adorn their portion of fortune with the best ability they can.

Contentment in Divine Providence

The author turns to God in prayer, seeking the grace to find contentment in the knowledge that all things are under divine control.

Why should I, O God? Shouldn't I be content with my share? While I know that not even a thorn can prick my food, where your hand is not present!

The Fleeting Nature of Time

The author acknowledges the transience of life and the struggle to reconcile human grief with the passing of time.

While time is short, as everything is carried on the back and blown away. So I sigh and make myself grieve, only to turn back to all these things that are blown away by time.
