The Fall of a Kingdom

The death of King Wenceslaus of Bohemia and the violent end of his son lead to the kingdom's transfer to outsiders, illustrating the fragility of earthly power.

In the year of our Lord 1307, Wenceslaus, king of Bohemia, died, and his son was crowned in Buda; and in the same year he was killed by one of his own knights (Ptol. p. .) And so the kingdom of Bohemia — since he left no heir — passed to outsiders, because Albert, king of the Romans, appointed his own son to the kingdom mentioned above.
