De Alexandro papa im et vacacione imperii.
Pope Alexander IV and His Care for Prussia
During the imperial interregnum of 1249, Pope Alexander IV, drawing on his firsthand knowledge of Prussia, showed generous devotion to the welfare of the Prussian land and the Teutonic brothers who suffered there.
In the year of our Lord 1249, Pope Alexander IV — who had once served as legate to the land of Poland and Prussia — sat upon the throne while the empire lay vacant. He was generous, gracious, and devoted to the poor, and he did much good for the welfare of the Prussian land, for he had seen with his own eyes the hardships endured there by the brothers of the Teutonic Order and other believers in the faith.
